    Hello,

I'm hoping that someone can help before I pull all of my hair out. I have just moved in to a new build house. It has french doors in the bedroom and I am struggling to hang curtains, after making about 8 holes I managed to find the spot where the metal they put in around the door wasn't and put up my pole, great, but by the morning the brackets were hanging out of the walls. I am a complete novice and am thinking that it may be better to pay someone to do it but thought i'd have a go at getting some advice to try once more first.
I have bought the correct wall plugs for plasterboard but am wondering if I may have drilled holes that were too big. The curtains are big and heavy so that may also be an issue.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

    Thank you

You have two options when hanging heavy curtains (probably lots more but these are the ones I have used)
    1. Butterfly fixings - which you put into your pre-drilled holes and they expand behind plasterboard in the cavity
    2. Self drive fixings (I think made by Rawl) which you screw into the wall and then screw your brackets into them

just gonna do a quick google here yep there they are - self drive here and butterfly here

Most electrial wholesalers are now stocking a new type of heavy duty plasterboard worm drive.

The mid section of it snaps out and locks into place so it will not move or budge once screwed into the plasterboard propperly.

Each worm drive can hold up to 45 kilos of weight.

You dont need to drill any holes, you dont even need to have a drill.

All you need is a philips head screwdriver and a steady hand.

I bought a box of them today. They are brilliant.

For the OP.. both these types of fixings are availble in B&Q etc.. Easy enough to get.. they are generally in the aisle with the screws/nail etc.. The come in blue and red plastic packets.. cost about €5 for 10 or so..
