    hey lou.

I'm going for the trad auditions today, but last week in BMus orientation, we were told we had to have reached an AI fleadh with our instrument. I've been in three AIs in a row, but... not with my main instrument. I have AI standard pieces on the piano, but would I need to audition with the instrument I played in three AIs in a row? Or would they accept my AI standard piano pieces? My other instrument is the mouth organ (yes, the mouth organ), and there are a few reasons I don't want to audition on that.

1: I have no lectures today, so I'd be bringing in a bag just to carry the organ, and then have to drag the bag around with me in the fresher's ball.

2: I would feel ridiculous playing the harmonica in the audition and in subsequent practises and performances, as I did in my old grupaí ceoil branch.

So, would they accept me on the piano? Though I never reached an AI on it, I have some very high standard pieces on it which would count as AI standard. The only reason I never reached an AI is because I used to get really nervous in the Leinster, and never played to my best. Common comments were "but your first two pieces were so good, why did you make x amount of mistakes on your last one?" etc.

    What do you think?

    Hey,

As far as I know the trad group unfortunately do not accept piano players
From what I know last years the instruments were : fiddles, harps, accordions, trad flutes and that type of thing.

I am not entirely sure about the mouth organ though if you would like to contact the head of the Trad group Adrian (you may have met him the first day) you can email him at adrian.scahill@nuim.ie, or by phone at 01-7084638. Maybe just inquire with him about it just too be sure :)

Ah you're grand, my choir audition went well enough already. I doubt mouth organs would be allowed since they're hardly trad instruments! :P If the choir doesn't work out I always have the choral society to fall back on :)

The trad group sometimes do take on a piano player but my advice would be prepared on both for your audition and just talk to Adrian there.
