Hey there! I'm looking for an 80's style "prom dress" in Dublin for a fancy dress. I don't want to order online as I'm a pretty variable size dress to dress! Just wondering does anyone know of where that type of dress would be available? I had a look in the shop at the end of George's St arcade but it's too pricey for me at the moment!

I want to go as overboard as possible, planning on getting some legwarmers, lace fingerless gloves and some kind of hairband. So if anyone has any suggestions about a dress or accessories they would be much appreciated. Thank you!!

Have you tried Harlequin? Or is that the shop you're referring to?

Hey! No I was talking about the shop that's towards the end of George's St Arcade beside Simon's Place - Retro maybe? Not sure. Had a quick look around Harlequin but nothing jumped out at me. It seems to be a bit more 70's in there? But will look again. Thanks for the reply!

How odd, whenever I've been in I've just remembered many dodgy 80s prom dresses. Try Oxfam on Georges St? Ebay.ie would be a good bet too.

Well if it was me and I was trying to keep the cost as low as possible:
    All in pennys -
Legwarmers (because Pennys' legwarmers haven't been nice in the last 2 years) = a nice pair of long socks with the feet cut off, scrunched up.
Fingerless lace gloves = fancy lace tights, again just cut to size, can even make the up to elbow length and thread some ribbon around the cuff.
Hairband = a bright coloured plain band + a broach or flower hairpin stuck on, maybe even some netting/lace added.

As for the dress, last halloween I picked up a tutu in that place in Stephen's Green centre (the one near the entrance that used to be Quiz/no name) that was pretty cheap. I'd say something like that added underneath any brightly coloured dress with the space for it would prom/80's it up a bit. Or you could even get a long/flowy dress and gather it up with some unseen safety pins to make a meringue-esque mini dress. (Something like these: http://moodboard.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83539e9ed69e201127971e27728a4-500wi

Or you could combine both to make something like this: http://s8.thisnext.com/media/largest_dimension/B542CABE.jpg

Either way I'd say you'd save a fortune if you alter an existing cheap dress rather than looking for one that's already perfect. There's a few places on Talbot/Henry St. with cheapish bright shiny material dresses.

Maybe try Golly Gosh boutique in Temple Bar? They're a vintage shop and I've definitely seen some 80's style dresses on their Facebook!
