Range finder choice for hunting

    Hi there,
my head is wrecked in looking at range finders for hunting. I see that they can hit 1500 metres in some cases but are only hitting fur at 500. So given my budget what are hunters using out there. I'll be shooting fur on a .223 out to 300 yards hopefully lol.. and maybe targets a bit further.

In looking I seemed to have narrowed it down a bit to a Bushnell with Arc as I like the way it compensates the angles and also gives bullet drop.

I would like to spend around 400 bucks at most as I want something decent that will last me a long time.

Any suggestions and also...Where do you buy these from.... anyone get one in from the States. Thanks M

I use a Lecia 1200 and got it second hand here.

Had bushnell yardage pro and it was a piece of junk.

Get a leica or zeiss. The bushnell and leupold ones that I have seen were crap.

On a budget Nikon, but if I had the dolla Leica. Was using Paulo6.f.s this am and at gam it was great where my Nikon needs reasonablr light or is blurry. Had a hold of a swaro too but for small and hany with great light gathering, leica

I have a Leica 900 and it does the job well, never let me down. It will reflect off nearly anything I focus it on and in the rain to.
    Paid £200 secondhand

Stay away from Bushnell will not range anything over 150 , very frustrating trying to range anything constantly firing laser to get reading.I was given demo on Leica very impressed .

I have a Nikon Date of Manufacture october 2000.

It broke recently after I dropped it from a height.
I opened the four screws, saw what part of the mechanism broke from fall. I glued back and now it is working again.

I bought it second hand 6 years ago, I am not soft on it.
I have it thrown behind the seat of the car all the time. and it gets hopped around the back seat as I carry passengers from time to time.
It is good to 600yards, it some times gives me readings out past 700 yards, but to be fair it would be rarely.

If on a Budget a Nikon is a very good buy.
If you have €750+ to spare buy a Leica or swaro.
For pure handiness the Leica is a smaller carry than the Swaro.

Currently in the states, I ordered a Leica 1600 and it was taking months on backorder.

Managed a deal with a board member when I was at home and became the proud owner of a Leica 1200.

Arrived back in the states to find a brand new 1600 .

Bring the 1200 back to Ireland, cousin asks to "borrow" it. Haven't seen it since.

Sure glad I held the 1600.

The 1600 has a lot if nice functions, like ballistic drop compensator. Someday I'll figure out how to use it.

Either the 1200 or the 1600 will do just fine. The 1600 is going for $800, there are coupons to be had for 5% off though.

Personally, I did like the glass in the 1600 better.
