    Hi

Could people please pm me some suggestions. Had a consultation today and was told I need braces and my teeth are way worse than i thought:/ said they would do clear ones on top for an extra €250 and but had to get metal on bottom. €450 for moulds and actual braces €4000.. What do ye think of that price? To be honest my teeth dont even look bad when i smile...

Price will depend on time of treatment etc etc...
Did you have a consultation with a registered orthodontist??

Unfortunately, getting your teeth perfect may not be as simple as you expected.... You may just be concerned with a few crowded upper front teeth but in order to align them, you may need to make space further back and remove premolar teeth and then the bite ain't ideal with the lower teeth so they might need tweaking too....etc etc, that's your 2 years....

By all means, consider a second opinion but I doubt a registered orthodontist is going to con you. Don't just go looking for the person who tells you what you want to hear, you may end up with the cheap and quick braces but not be happy with the end result....

    Good luck,

    Hi there

unfortunately orthodontic treatment takes time and 18-24 months is about the average for a difficult case. More straight forward cases take less time and cost a bit less. If this is what the orthodontist says and you are happy with it then go ahead but dont be tempted by a shorter treatment that will cost about the same

I am confused as to the overall cost, is it €4000 + €450 for moulds + €250 for white braces i.e. €4700 or €4000 plus €250 for the white braces i.e. €4250 (the 450 for moulds being included in the overall cost?)

    Hi ENMcD

Just wondering did you decide to go with the braces and if so how are you gettin on with them? I went for a consultation last week, exact same prices etc as you & I also thought my teeth weren't that bad!! Thinking about the ceramic ones also...

I would not recommend <snip> as an orthodontist in Galway.

    In my own experience, he:

    - uses obsolete, cumbersome and sometimes inadapted appliances
    - has longer treatments
    - has a limited set of techniques and treatment options available
    - doesn't give clear explanations about the treatment plan and about his intentions
    - is not very friendly, not a good listener, poor communication skills
    - wasted my time and money

I am now being treated by a new orthodontist which seems a lot more competent and is the exact opposite of the above.

    Hi folks,

Sorry to drag this thread up agan but also thinking of biting the bullet and getting my horse mouth repaired in the most un-noticable way possible.

Can't seem to get too much info on the services offered by some of the orthodontists in Galway so was just wondering if someone could also pm me about a decent orthodontist in Galway City.

    Many thanks.

I didn't find <snip> very professional, and he's definitely not the most competent orthodontist around in Galway. You've been warned...

    Hi,
Like some of the others in this thread, I was thinking about investing in orthodontal treatment. I don't think that the work would be dramatic, so maybe somewhere between 6 and 12 months. Money is an issue, so I don't want to give my hard earned euros to some cowboy. But at the same time, they are my teeth, so I want to be careful who I trust to do this work. It's a nuisance that dentists don't have their prices advertised on their websites (I thought they had to by law, but I must be wrong), and I don't want to repeatedly pay out 100 euro just to find the right orthodontist.
Any advice or recommendations, please PM me!
    Thanks,
    E.
