I have applied for a couple of CE scheme jobs in the past week - I am just wondering if anyone is currently doing one and what the rates are ? The fas site gives a rate of €209 - Is this correct ? I think I am also eligible to a half rate for 2 children (had got this when on JSB)

Also are your "wages" taxable ?

    Thanks in advance

I think the rate is €208 a week and you get half childs rate if you get is on jobseekers. You dont pay tax or prsi on it.

Thanks for that - I have seen 2 CE jobs this week that sound okay and the hours really suit me (5 mornings PW) - I have sent off an application for both so we'll see what happens. I wonder if many people apply for these schemes or whether there is much interest in them. Time will tell - Would like to get something - It is nice to be out doing something rather than being at home all the time.

CE wages are taxable but it depends on your own tax circumstances if you actually have to pay any tax.

Generally speaking the majority of people don't go over the threshold and so don't pay tax. There is no PRSI payment made by the participant on CE however the employer does pay the employers share of PRSI. :)

I have just started my 2nd year on a CE Scheme, I was an adult dependent on my partners jobseekers, so am doing the scheme under the spousal swap. We have one daughter, but are not married. I do get taxed on my money, almost 10e a week-but only because I am over the limit for a single person.

I recently started a CE Scheme. I am married with 4 children. I get €438 for both myself and my husband...this is less than €20 on top of what I was gettin on Jobseekers. I have to travel to work, so petrol costs, lunch, etc. are all extra.

I spoke to a single mother on OPF recently who told me she's getting €450 a week!!!
She is currently doing a Fás course and gets a free creche (If my husband gets a job, where will we get the money to pay creche fees?!). She also lives with her boyfriend who is in full time employment....where is the logic?
