Should I stay away from them?

    Was thinking of having a look at this;

    http://www.joemallonmotors.ie/used-cars/?carid=16258

I'll let owners speak for them, I believe they have many many electrical issues.

Also 'Sport', ' 1.5 Diesel' and '86bhp' should not be in the same description.

Seems expensive, you'd get an 08 focus diesel for 10k these days.

The facelift Meganes are better than the original ones in that shape, but at that money you'd be mad to.

When did Joe mallon take over dr.bills garage in portlaoise?

How much you think it is worth?

    Why?

Be nearly due a timing change... Way to dear 5k be enough. Insult them with an offer :)

Given what you can buy a new fluence for, the meganes terrible reputation, the obsession with 08 tax cars I can't see it being worth more than 6000

I know its main dealer with decent mileage but those yokes are a pox, you'd shift a dose of aids quicker.

The 86hp is dead as a dead thing. Renault are fairly liberal with the S word on any old car. Some laguna 1.6s were even called supersport!

I know walking is a sport.

There's not many things as optimistic as what a Renault dealership thinks their secondhand Renaults are worth.

    Why?

Diesel ≠ Sport (with some very rare exceptions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_908_HDi_FAP)
    1.5 ≠ Sport
    86bhp ≠ Sport
    Renault Magane Saloon ≠ Sport

As mentioned above, it's very overpriced for what it is.
A '07 car so tax will be based on the old tax system. If it was a year younger, your tax bill would be less, and hence the price of your '07 car should be a nice bit cheaper than an '08 - but it's not.

Your resale value will be shocking as well, just because it's a Renault! Now, I can't comment on the reliability of the diesel megane so you will have to do a bit of research - google is your friend.

I would be inclined to avoid tbh.

There wouldnt be that much diff between both taxes maybe 150 or there abouts

Rest assured come budget 2012 time, the road tax based on co2 emissions will be scrapped, It will be rebranded in all but name it will be put back to old system based on engine size. It ll be good for people with older cars looking to trade in. Bad news for 2008 onwards car owners

Well overpriced for a Megane II. Here is a similar year Focus 1.8 TDCi for less money:

    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201137204428202

Top spec Ghia model too with auto lights, auto wipers, cruise control, etc. 1.8 TDCi is not as refined as the 1.6 TDCi but turbo failure is not as common as on the 1.6 and it doesn't have a DPF to worry about either.

    Must be true so.

There maybe "adjustments" to the motor tax bands and rates but there is no evidence pointing to them returning to the old system. The new system was designed to be revenue neutral.

They've been losing revenue by the bucket load since '08.

It was on the cards since then that the whacky Green Party driven tax regime was unsustainable. It either comes from motor tax or some other Council revenue stream such as commercial rates etc.

You didn't need to be Einstein to see it being a problem.

Ha ha Revenue neutral The tax system was only designed to be revenue neutral by those green twats . All other governments see it as generating revenue for the pot ... Anyway come december you can prove me wrong:)
