I don't have all the details, but apparently next Thursday week 29th September, NUIG debating society will be holding a debate "Are we born this way?". Amongst the speakers (presumably for the "yes" side :D ) will be Louise Hannon - the trans woman who won the internationally-important equality case earlier on in the year.

Good luck - at least to all those on the "yes" side anyway :D .

Ooh, thanks for the heads up, I'm at NUIG, I'll try and make it if I've nothing else on. Sounds interesting! :)

    From TENI's facebook page -
"NUI, Galway’s Literary and Debating Society will present a Transgender Panel Discussion in the Kirwan Theatre tonight at 7pm. The event will explore what what transgenderism is; how it affects people; the different attitudes people have towards it; the status of transgender people in Ireland; the legal issues surrounding it; and Minister Joan Burton’s proposed Gender Recognition legislation."
The Galway Advertiser announcement mentions who the speakers will be -
Louise Hannon, who won a transgender discrimination High Court case; Michael Farrell, solicitor who represented Lydia Foy in her successful case against the State; Bernie Fitzgerald, gender therapist for Rainbow Support Services, Limerick; Dr Don Horrocks, Evangelical Alliance UK; and Keith Tiller, a former transgender person who now runs a ministry that mentors transgender people on the Biblical response to transgenderism.

    A former transgender person?

Dr Don Horrocks, Evangelical Alliance UK
the Bible made it “absolutely clear that God created human beings as male and female.
“Therefore there is absolutely no Christian acknowledgement of the 21st century human idea that it’s possible somehow for a person to take charge of their own destiny and to decide what their own sexuality is,”

    Keith Tiller:
Keith Tiller is ex-trans (bigender), running the pseudo organization Parakaleo, a British organization that encourages Christians and the government to condemn transgenderism. They also try to influence politics, though they failed to stop the Gender Recognition Act which allowed transexuals to change their legal sex. Since then, Parakaleo has been inactive. Tiller contributed to and is recommended by Transsexuality A Report by the Evangelical Alliance Policy Commission.
