I have a HTC Sensation. I have the following APNs setup. I have LIVE selected as the APN as you can see.

    6034073

Is there any way that an app could use the ISP APN without me knowing?

    Thanks

I'm not worried, I was 100% confident until Vodafone told me I've been using the ISP APN while roaming instead of the LIVE one. It's strange because the LIVE one is working and active (verified by checking the data balance by text with Vodafone) right until I get on the plane. Then Vodafone expect me to believe that the ISP just starts working while I'm roaming?

Granted the Vodafone guy is still looking into it but this seems to be what their system is suggesting.

You'd think, but if you use the isp one abroad you get charged data roaming fees, but with the Live one (depending on your contract) it just comes out of your data allowance.

Theyre billed so very diiferently when roaming on prepay.

I used VF PAYG for over a year and I'd switch between the APN's each day depending on how much I was going to use the internet that day.

I regularly checked my credit and I'm 100% positive that no data ever went through the un-selected APN so you should rule out a rogue app.

One explanation I can think of is that you selected the wrong APN when you landed in a new country? Unlikely I'd imagine.

The next explanation would be that roaming on another network could have mixed up your settings somehow. Also unlikely I would imagine.

If it was anyway common lots of people would be giving out about €500 data bills :pac: they do anyway but in a different scenario to this one!

I've just had exactly the same problem with my HTC Sensation & VF data roaming !!

One month ago I was in the U.K and used my phone via VF Live with no issue. Two weeks later I was in the U.K again, using my Sensation via VF Live browsing, checking emails, using the same apps etc as two weeks previous and I was hit with the max EU capped €50 charge for data roaming via VF ISP.

I contacted Vodafone immediately, tech support failed to contact me back on a no. of occasions to discuss the issue. Finally got to speak with tech support, who claimed it was a legitimate charge because certain apps do access ISP even though VF Live is set as access point.

This completely contradicts the fact I used the phone two weeks earlier in exactly the manner, and had no issue routing all data via VF Live.

Two weeks on still waiting to be contacted by a Manager.

How long have you had your Sensation. I only ask because Vodafone changed the terms in some of the contracts regarding data roaming coming out of your data bundle - so people who upgraded and signed a new contract (thinking it was the same one) may have lost their data roaming entitlements.

I'm prepay, using the Live APN as advised, etc.

    Hi Random,

Could you send me on your number and time/dates of roaming, I'll double check with the handset and billing teams as well as checking with HTC.

All data should go through your default APN whilst roaming or at home, there's no reason at all the APN should change.

Unless a certain APP has specifically been configured to use ISP, everything should go through your default APN, (Live in your case)

Mr Woods - Could you send on your details as well, I'll follow up and will add your details to the case.
