Any comment on this? How accurate do we think this calculator is?

Apparantly my recent 1:22 half marathon is equivalent to a female of the same age doing it in 1:34.

I can expect a 1:29 half marathon time at 45yrs of age - not bad I suppose.

How do you stack up as a woman (or a man if appropriate) or an oldie??

I saw what it'd be like to be a boy, apparently I'm pretty fast! :pac:

A guy my age would have a half marathon time over 11 minutes faster than mine.

Someone 10 years older than me would have one over 9 minutes faster than mine.

You men have it too easy.

Age calculations are estimates only. They don't account for freaks like M50 Martin Francis. After his recent 4th place marathon in Dingle he ran 2 1:22 half marathons 1 day after the other last weekend. And 45 isn't that old john (says he nearly there)

On a personal basis I've gotten better with age (running wise!)

Also the gender differences probably don't allow for the like of Ms Radcliffe running daft speeds, but the overall number of female marathon runners being significantly less than male. I'm sure I saw a chart before that showed the average times of completion for men v women and I think the faster times followed a vaguely similar curve, because so few women took part in the masses the slower times actually dropped off a lot quicker in terms of numbers completing. That made it appear that the average time for women was actually way faster than for men I think.

Yeah, doesnt account for the freaks but interesting all the same - for entertainment purposes only. I dont advocate gender reassignment or cross dressing to improve one's times!

Rainbow could this be a LGBT/ART research thesis???

Eddie Izzard may have been onto something with the wearing women's clothes and then taking up marathon running. :D

I find Howard Grubb's calculator excellent. It's based on the World Master Association's age factors, which, in turn, are based on world records at various ages. Grubb's is a bit more complex at first glance.

Comparing Howard Grubb's calculator with http://www.marathonguide.com/fitness...equivalent.cfm, I'm getting 3:20:32 Vs 3:16:53 for my 1988 2:46:03 (age 35). Just about 3.5 minutes difference between the two predictions. I'll be happy enough if I make 3:16 in Dublin.
