Ford Fiesta - What's it worth?

    Hi all,

Just wondering if you could advise me on something.
I'm currently considering the purchase of a second-hand ford fiesta. I saw it advertised locally and was wondering what kind of an offer I should make?

It is a 2004 fiesta, 1.2 litre engine. 49,000 miles on the clock. 6 months left until NCT. 1 owner and full service history. From the couple of photos accompanying the ad it looks spotless inside and out.

I know nothing about cars. The owner is looking for 4k and I am wondering what is a respectable/realistic offer to make (assuming I like it as much when I go to see it)

Thanks you so much, any advice much appreciated :D

That is expensive for a 2004 Fiesta irrespective of the low mileage. My sister bought a 2008 Fiesta with 18k miles and six months warranty from a Ford dealer last year for €7600.

Here is a 2006 model for slightly more money:

Thanks for the advice Bazz :)
As it stands 4k is really beyond my budget. I had planned to spend 2500-3000 tops and less if at all possible but that car just caught my eye and I wondered if I might be better off pushing the boat out as the car seemed in such good nick. I just don't know if it's worth it to go that much beyond my budget for any car; as you've pointed out there might be better deals to be had!
Incidentally, if I were to make an offer on the car in question, how low could I go without being laughed at?

To be honest I would not even make an offer on it. At €4k it is priced too high so even if the seller dropped €500 off it I still think you would be paying on the high side for it. I'd doubt very much the seller would leave it go for €3k if they are asking €4k for it.

I reckon the 06 in the link I posted could be bought for €4k at a push.

That's a really good point, I think you're right in that the owner is not going to accept much below 3,500 if they're asking for 4 and I've been scouting around done deal and adverts - I think I can do better than that.

Thanks a mill for the advice!

Lol, good point. I guess the worst that could happen is they'd say no! Will keep it in mind as my search continues... :)

Have you driven one of those Fiestas? They're horribly uncomfortable, I'd go for the older model in 02, most of them were Ghia's are IMO they're a much nicer car. You should be able to get yourself a nice clean one for under 2 grand, too.

I've spent a bit of time in both, the 02 or older Fiesta being designed in the late 1980s feels crampted on the inside and less refined. The newer model doesn't feel as small, granted it is taller and you feel you are sitting on it rather than in it but it still handles well, has a stiffer shell and has plenty of room. Given the choice I would definately take the newer model over the older one.

I spent a year (minus a day) in a 03Lk3334, honestly it was the most uncomfortable car I've been in. Plus they're hideous IMO. The Ghia is alot more comfortable, albeit smaller and older but it's the same engine!
