Selling silver - adverts.ie or auction

    Hello,

Wondered if anyone had an opinion on selling antique sterling silver on adverts.ie - I have three trays and a quantity of forks - total 36, being in sets of 16, 6, 6 & 8.

Whilst they are not particularly aesthetically special, their weights make them quite high value items - the largest tray itself is 3152 grams, combined weight of all is 10212 grams.

Just looking on adverts and most of the items there seem to be quite small pieces, and wondered if anyone had any success in selling larger pieces of silver there?

My alternative is obviously auction, but have to wait for next one, pay commission etc etc.

Anyone got an opinion if adverts is likely to gain a worthwhile price? Any advice much appreciated and thanks in advance.

Auction for the best price IMO.

yeah, +1 on that. try www.jwa.ie, they seem to specialise in selling silver.

well , auction commission is usually between 18 and 25 % , and then the bullion collectors also have a buyers commission to pay , and will take that into account if they plan to scrap their silver .

But on the other hand , some bullion collectors believe the price will rise even higher .... and pay a little over the odds .

whatever you do , check that you are getting value for your silver .
I walked into a 'we buy gold ' shop and asked the girl at the counter what price she'd give per gram of 9ct gold . she looked up the chart and offered me a price about 40% of its scrap value . it was a very upmarket jewellers which looked prestigious .

Its a bit of a gamble , silver is traditionally much more volatile than gold .
and also to remember that a troy oz differs slightly from our standard oz .

Pick your moment and best of luck :)
