Would have to give a notable mention to Cragg also in both 5k (13.03 NR) and his half marathon earlier in the year (60.49 which is a National best)

    My picks would be:
    1. Deirdre Ryan 1.95 NR HJ Daegu
    2. Ciaran O'Lionaird 3:34.46 1,500m Oordegem
    3. Alistair Cragg 13:03.53 NR Brussells
I would also have to mention the fantastic performance of the women's 4x400m NR in Daegu.

The underage scene was outstanding this year with so much success stories and plenty of medals to shout about.

Tough to pick a top 3. Alistair Cragg's NR was absolutely superb and I'm delighted for the guy, but as championships are the most important thing in the sport I have to pick solely based on them.

    I'll give a top 4:

    1) Deirdre Ryan, 6th in the world championships. A victory for B-Standard athletes.
    2) Ciaran O'Lionaird, qualifying for the world 1500m final. He wasn't happy with how he ran the final. There's a lot more to come from him.
    3) Womens 4x400m team finished 12th in the world. They were only 1.2 seconds or so off qualification for the final, and given they messed up the start completely, there certainly is more to come off that record. For a country like Ireland, with a small population and little pool of talent to choose from to finish so highly in a relay competition is quite an achievement
    4) Kate Veale, winning gold at the World Youth Championships. What a star for the future.
