iMac and MBP memory interchangeable?

Looking at memory upgrades for my iMac and MBP and the chance to save a few quid sprung to mind. Maybe.

2011 model i5 13" MBP has two slots, currently each housing 2gb of RAM.
2010 model i3 27" iMac has four slots, two in use, each with 2gb of RAM.

I had thought that if I upgrade the RAM in the MBP that the 2x2gb removed would be pretty worthless. But, given that all four sticks in the two computers are 2gb DDR3 1333MHz, could I just put that in the spare iMac slots and only buy new stuff for the MBP?

Basically the question is, does the iMac use the same physical form of RAM as the MBP?

    TIA

I'm not definitely sure but I used crucial.com for more memory for my mini. They have a configurator where you search by machine. That way you can resolve your question hopefully? There are a couple if other recommended sites too to compare pricing. Elara.ie I think.

I've checked crucial and, while they list different part numbers for the two machines, I'm holding out a faint hope that they might still be compatible. Thanks.

If it's the same RAM, then yes. A lot of iMac/MBP RAM is interchangeable, but it depends on the models.

Old thread, I know, but I thought I'd update it in case it shows up on a search for somebody.

I got 2x4gb RAM from Crucial during the week, stuck it in the MBP earlier, then put the 2x2gb that came out into the spare slots on the iMac. Both machines now rocking 8gb thank you very much.

FWIW Crucial said there could be any number of reasons why their part numbers for the two systems were different but the CS guy checked and came back to me to say that the same RAM will work in both.
