Compaq touchbad misbehaving..

    Compaq Presario CQ56
    In Warranty
Windows 7 home Premium 64 bit (original install)
    pentium Dual Core CPU T4500 @ 2.30GHz
    Full Subscription AVG 2011
    Synaptics Lux Pad V 7.4

My touchpad is going crazy. nearly 5 or 6 times a day the right three quarters of it stops working and only the very left hand side of it seems to work. To get it to work again I have to go to mouse properties (with great difficulty) and reset the synaptics device. When I do that it works perfectly for a while and then it seems to drop off again without notice.

I have uninstalled the drivers, and reinstalled them. I have also upgraded the drivers to the latest compatible and that didn't work either. in fact doing that meant i lost my "reset device" button so i couldn't even do that. I uninstalled it and reverted to the default driver.

I thought for a while that it was happening when I plugged in and unplugged my charger but it seems to be happening regardless. It doesn't discriminate to what programs are running at the same time.

Anybody with any (useful) advice please reply.

    Thanks!

If it's in warranty I would take an external back up of all your data and return it.

It could be hardware or it could be some software you have installed which has caused the problem.

I would stress again take a back up of all your personal data somewhere other than on the laptop, before returning it, as it is likely to come back with the OS reinstalled
