I presume this is only for sky customers?

    From the $ky website

Watch all the Sky Sports channels for free on the weekend of September 24-25.

With the free weekend pass, Sky Sports are giving non-Sky Sports customers a whole weekend of world-class sport for free.

From 6am on Saturday September 24 to 6am on Monday 26, even if you don't have a Sky Sports subscription you can watch all the sporting action on all five Sky Sports channels including Sky Sports News.

And for those of you who have the HD box and an HD package with Sky or Virgin Media, you can feast your eyes on all the weekend's action in stunning HD on Sky Sports HD1, HD2, HD3 & HD4 as well as Sky Sports News HD *

    So how will it work?

If you are a Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk or Small World customer, all you have to do is simply turn to the Sky Sports Channel of your choice and enjoy!

    Sky Sports HD1/1

So to catch the US PGA Tour Golf on Saturday night, just tune in to Sky Sports HD 1 (Sky Channel 401) or Sky Sports 1 (Sky Channel 408) between 7 and 10pm and with the press of a button you'll be taken to the lush greens of Atlanta.

Other great events on Sky Sports 1 and HD 1 include Solheim Cup golf (7am-7pm), the live npower Football League match Cardiff City v Leicester City(1.30pm-3.30pm); the Barclays Premier League clash QPR v Aston Villa (3.30pm-6pm) and not forgetting an evening of live International T20 Cricket with England v West Indies (6pm- 11pm).

    Sky Sports HD2/2

On Sky Sports HD 2 (Sky Channel 402) and Sky Sports 2 (Sky Channel 409) there's more world class Barclays Premier League football with Manchester City v Everton (12.30pm-3.30pm), Live engage Super League (5pm-7.30pm) followed by a super Sunday of golf with another trip to the emerald greens of Ireland for the Solheim Cup (9.30am-5pm) and more from the US PGA Tour (5pm-11pm).

    Sky Sports HD3/3

There's even more on Sky Sports HD 3 (Sky Channel 403) and Sky Sports 3 (Sky Channel 418). Why not catch Saturday rugby union action with the live Currie Cup match Lions v Blue Bulls (2pm-4pm) followed by live Championship rugby with the Cornish Pirates v Leeds (4pm-6.30pm)?

Then enjoy an evening at ringside with Fight Night Live (8.30pm-10.30pm). Sunday sees Exeter play Wasps in the Aviva Premiership (2.30pm-5pm) then it's off to Spain to watch live La Liga football (6pm-10.30pm)

    Sky Sports HD4/4

On Sky Sports HD 4 (Sky Channel 404) and Sky Sports 4 (Sky Channel 454) let Saturday kick off with some live Scottish football with Dunfermline v Rangers from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League (12.30pm-3.30pm), changing gear for live Grand Prix Speedway (6pm-9pm). At 9pm jet off for a Saturday evening of more live sun-soaked La Liga football fixtures from Spain (9pm-11pm). Then on Sunday, touch down in the USA for awesome American football from the NFL.

    Sky Go

Don't worry if you've already made plans for that weekend; there's no need to pass up this opportunity.

All Sky TV customers can get the free Sky Go app and make this sporting feast truly moveable. Just download the app to your iPhone or iPad, sign in with your Sky ID and you can enjoy all of the Sky Sports Channels and Sky Sports News wherever you like. Now that's sporting!

    * Sky Sports on Sky includes Sky Sports HD1, HD2, HD3, HD4 and Sky Sports News HD. Sky Sports on Virgin Media only includes Sky Sports HD1 and HD2

Available to Sky TV customers. Other platforms contact your provider.

Free Sky Sports on Sky Go for Sky TV customers with an entertainment package on 24-25 September. UK/ROI only. Compatible device, Wi-Fi or 3G and registration required.

Kristopherus, you should get your keyboard fixed-you somehow keep typing $ky instead of Sky;)

Nice to get a free weekend of sport though.

Wonder will it include ESPN? It's part of the sky sports package for Irish customers..

so does this mean UPC customers dont get it

You should contact UPC. Virgin in the UK will have it so it is not Sky customer exclusive

As asked already, I'm very interested to see if this includes ESPN. ESPN is included in the "Sports Pack" so if the entire "Sports Pack" is free, we should get it...

Man United game is being shown on ESPN on Saturday 5.30!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,345 ✭✭✭buyer95

I also hope espn is included but im not holding out much hope, I think if espn was also being offered they would publicize it?

Its only Sky Sports 1-4 and Sky Sports News that will be FTV

Here is a Linky to whats being shown this weekend.

Bad News is that no ESPN is shown :(

Good news is that it's a UK site and afaik ESPN is only free to Sky Sports subscribers in Ireland, so they wouldn't be showing ESPN listings.

    So............ There is hope! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭ripcord

Is there any "official" sky representative we could ask about getting ESPN free in ireland at the weekend?

Is there a Sky rep on boards? Or do they have some twitter account or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭beglee

apparently if you go to channel 100 on your upc box (the info channel), and go to "my messages", it says that the free sky sports weekend applies to UPC customers too :D

not at home to check, but had the missus do it, and she said it is correct

Although it says in the op that if you have a hd sub you will get the Sky Sports Hd channels free too, well I don't have a HD sub and all the HD Sky Sports channels are available to me.

    Worth checking out. :)

    Well spotted Adox.

I'm now watching the lovely ladies (and Laura Davies) in The Solheim Cup in HD :)

Did ye non Sky Sports subscribers get ESPN as well?

No ESPN just the Sky Sports channels.

    That's a shame.

Hard to moan about getting a freebie, but I would have thought that the whole point in Skys 'free pass weekend' was to show non sky sports subscribers what they were missing, and hopefully glean a few subscriptions.

I wonder if a phone call might get you 'switched on' like it did for the free sky movies a few months back?

Sky don't own ESPN so they cannot give it away without ESPN's permission.

Basic packages aren't too bad these days though.

€25 a month for entertainment package (RTE,BBC,CH4,E4 etc, etc, too many too list.)

Seems to be a fair few stations though.

Equivalent of 2 Pints a week, not too bad.Plus you get ESPN thrown in.That's how I justify paying for it,I didn't have ESPN before as I set a limit on what I'd spend on tv and as a result ended up in the pub watching some games so it's money saved having it at home. (plus no annoying ABU's shouting for the other team):)

Its a pity they don't have a pay per program system or something similar. Would like to watch the odd rugby match or soccer the very rare time, but wouldn't pay the exorbitant monthly prices they want.

Sky is involved in one big con.

If you have freeview you can pick up those stations for free. If you had sky after a year they let you keep the aeriel and the box and, like the freeview, along with saorview you have most of the stations anyway.

As I said. one big con. You have to establish what extra they are giving you for the extra E300 pa. (That's another part of the con. Tell you what it costs per month rather than the annual cost).
