    Hi All,

Quick question, do the above GAA teams have any chance of winning an All Ireland Senior championship? What is the farthest they have come? I never knew they existed until yesterday. I'd be interested if anyone here has any knowledge...

    Cheers.

For the foreseeable future, no chance.

London achieved a moral victory over Mayo and a real victory over Fermanagh this term. Huge from their perspective, small beer for most other counties. It was hughe to the extent that these result were the best ever for a London team.

London - yes in theory and will improve further in coming years.
New York - Not a hope. Even if they win their game in the Connacht first round they most likely wouldnt be able to travel to Ireland to play the next round game due to Visa issues.

A few years back New York hurlers beat Derry in the Ulster championship semi final, but then couldnt travel to play Antrim in the final as only 1 player on the panel had a green card. There was talk of Antrim being awarded the title but eventually a compromise was found and Antrim travelled to New York to play the final in October.

Kust curious as to how you only discovered they existed yesterday?! Did you not hear of London beating Fermanagh in football qualifiers this year?

Hands up, I'm a bit of a bandwagon jumper! I'd say the GAA gained a few extra fans yesterday, it was a great show piece and seemed to get allot more attention then ever before. Perhaps because Dublin were in it and I was too young to remember the last final the Dubs were in. Although I do remember them bringing the trophy to the school :)

London have made it to 5 finals (I think). About a hundred years ago was the last time tho.

Indeed! Looks like they lost to Dublin three times, Kerry and Tipp in 1900, 1901, 1902, 1903 and 1908.

London and New York have no chance of winning an All-Ireland any time soon, but then you could say the same about alot of other counties. What chance have Carlow or Fermanagh or Wicklow or Leitrim of winning an All-Ireland??

London won the 1901 senior hurling All Ireland, beating Cork in the final.

The captain was john coughlan was a clare man that was famous for hurling even before the foundation of the GAA, Had some great photos of him in some of my pubs i used to own in west/north London.

They got a bye to all of those finals - it was an Ireland vs. the World final, even though the world was usually just London (and maybe a Scottish selection). New York got a bye to NHL final in 69-70.

speak for yourself, Mayo were in the semi finals, Roscommon are a young side improving all the time and Galway can only get better from where they are now

Quite clearly he was speaking for himself, where did he infer any different??

What ever about winning a Connaught they will definitely be very competitive and will improve greatly, a slight benefit or silver lining if you like of the recession.

Pretty unlikely. They may well beat Galway or Mayo one of these days but I couldn't picture them actually winning Connaught. Mayo, Galway, Roscommon and even Sligo would still be a bit ahead of them. I know they ran Mayo very close this year but that was arguably a one-off. If they had played again the following Sunday Mayo would probably have won comfortably, that's the likelihood.

Though at least they're now getting to a level where they're competitive and this year's very credible performances give them something to build on.
