What are you looking for from the pistol? Just a regular side-arm, or sub-compact pistol?

The WE Hi-Cappa's are not fantastic. In my experience, the leaf/sear springs are very weak, and bend out of shape, or come out of alignment quite easily. Not a big problem if you're handy with fine adjustment (and have the patience of a saint). WE 1911's are also gas-hogs...they burn through the stuff at an alarming rate. Accuracy wise, they are pretty decent - just strip it down, clean it (especially the barrel), tighten all the screws, re-grease and reassemble. You'll be hitting man-size target at standard pistol ranges (20m or less) with the regular WE Hi Cappa.

The Baby-Cappa on the other hand is a sub-compact pistol, with quite a small barrel. This means that your gun will be significantly less accurate - you will get a lot of flyers (BB's whirring off in every direction), so your effective range decreases to about 10-15m max).

If you're interested in a cheap enough Hi-Cappa, then I think you'd be far better off with the KJW KP-05 (also known as S&W1911PD/PT1911) - like the WE, it is Co2 capable, and has green gas mags available for it as well. I have found the KJW to be a lot more accurate than the WE - at 20m you can easily hit your man-size target, and achieve better.

However, if you prefer the sub-compact pistol then you'll be much better off with TM's offerings; Detonics, PX-4 etc. With smaller barrels, you need to compensate with superior quality. Where you've got bigger barrels, you can compromise a little. Otherwise you have the likes of the Maruzen PPK and a whole pile of other compact pistols

well im doin the whole shotgun pistol combo for a while so i suppose id want decent range out of it
are the hi cappas hard guns to disassemble/reassemble?
would i be able to do it myself or would i need a retailer for something that small?

They're pretty easy to disassemble. All you need is a clean work surface, patience, and basic tools.

All you do is pull the slide back, pop out the slide-catch, and slide the upper off of the guide rails (watch out for the spring guide flinging out). Put the lower aside. Remove spring guide, recoil spring, and slide the barrel out of the slide. Remove the rear sight, and remove the screw out of the very back of the slide. The whole BBU (Blow-back unit) should come out (watch out for the spring on the underside of loading nozzle).

Unscrew the small black plastic block from the barrel assembly, and slide out your inner barrel and hop. Turn the hop completely off, and clean the barrel (small amount of silicone oil to loosen dirt); keep cleaning it until no dirt remains.

If you feel confident, you can disassemble the BBU to make sure the piston O-Ring is well lubricated, and then reassemble ensuring all the screws are nice and tight. Reassemble the slide, and oil everywhere that's a moving part (don't be too gratuitous, or too stingy).

Reassemble the pistol, and rack the slide around 20 times - wipe off any excess oil. Fire a couple of magazines through (around 100 BBs or so) to get rid of any excess silicone oil, and then adjust your hop up. From there it's just a matter of getting to know your pistol, how it shoots etc. This is especially important when using it with the likes of a shotgun, as it will likely be employed an awful lot more than most pistols.

I would strongly recommend the TM gear for your uses though; far superior accuracy, and a greater degree of reliability. Sure, inflated cost...but they are worth the extra

I had the WE 3.8 baby hi capa, the range and accuracy were amazing, range was about 30 metres which is alot for a gas pistol. If you're going for the pistol/shotty combo I'd suggest, like Inari said, go for a Co2 pistol, in the cold Irish weather you don't want to draw the sidearm to figure out the gas had cooled down and you cannot use it. I have a KJW M9 which takes Co2, amazing pistol not exactly small but it sits fairly nicely on my leg so. also you could try the TM 5-7. apperently very good performance in cold weather for a gas pistol, then you have a USP compact etc or ever thought of an mp7/mp5? either way the hi capa's are good but the gas i found didn't do too well in the cold weather especially on the 5.1's and similar due to the heavy slide. there are plenty of nice Co2 pistols out there. so I would recommend you look for a co2 one for a bit and see what you can find :)
