How many years will the grant cover?

    Hi all,
someone said to me today that the grant will only cover 5 years of study . . now because I studied 3 years in an IT (Ordinary Degree) transferred to a University to complete my Honours Degree - this means I will have studied for 5 years so if I go on to study a masters (1 year which will be year six of study) does this mean that I will not get the grant or any of my fees funded? I have asked my local authority this a while back but I dont think they would have realised that I would have already studied for 5 years (I was just asking was it the same process for a masters).
    Cheers in advance!

I am nearly sure the grant can cover upto years for postgrad. Someone told me that but it might be wrong

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I think it's between 4-5 for undergraduate and up to a maximum of 4 years for postgraduate.

I had my undergraduate degree covered by my local authority for 4 years, but funded a two year part-time masters degree myself and have completed one year of a part-time PhD, again self-funded.

I am now full-time again, and my local authority have told me that they will only cover a max of 4 years postgrad but since I have three years done - albeit part-time and paid for myself - the most I will get is a grant and fees for one year with the possibility of a second year based on the fact that my other postgrad years were part-time. Obviously it's all taken on an individual case basis and nothing is guaranteed.

Based on your situation OP, you should have your masters funded, providing you meet the criteria - although do be aware of the changes to being declared an independent mature candidate and the three year break from studies, as that may affect your status - there are several threads on this if you do a search.
