Was pondering this last night while watching Night of Champions, maybe some can confirm. Would I be right in saying that the Intercontinental Championship is currently WWE's only unalterted or non-recomissioned title?
    • Tag Titles were split as WWE and World, then Unified.
    • Womens championship was unified with Divas.
    • US Championship was decommisioned from WCW and then brought back.
    • World Heavyweight Championship and WWF were unified into one, and then the World Heavyweight Championship was brought back anyway.
    • WWF became WWE championship.
    • RVD eventually unified the European with the Intercontinental, to become just the Intercontinental championship.
    • Intercontinental never went under any name change, never suffered to any unification or retirement.
Was gonna post this in Q+A but it will probably end up in a discussion, can anyone confirm my above theory? I'm after confusing myself altogether. :(

The Intercontinental title was originally the North American title. Although WWE changes the history of that often.

Been looking around for info, says it was originally called the Interncontinental Heavyweight Championship.
Pat Patterson unified his North American Heavyweight with the South American Heavyweight to form the Intercontintental Heavyweight.

Intercontinental title was retired/merged in 2002 at No Mercy when Kane lost it to Triple H and it was merged with the World Heavyweight Championship.

It was reintroduced in 2003 at Judgement Day in a battle royal,I think Christian won it IIRC.

Surely all the titles would have had a slight name change when the company changed from WWF to WWE.

World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship is now the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
