Hi all, I am currently putting the wedding booklet together and have to pick first and second readings - looked at all the normally used ones but would prefer something a bit more original - any biblical experts out there with some tips? Thanks in advance for your help, and if someone has posted similar here before that i have missed then apologies in advance!

Check out a reading from the book of Ruth and reading from the book of sirach.
They are both old testament but my priest said they were fine to use.
If you google them you'll find 2 lovely readings for your wedding.

See what psalm your wedding musician is thinking of doing (if you do have a musician singing the psalm!) and try and work from that.

The words of some of the psalms compliment some of the readings that are available.. Song of Ruth with something from the book of Ruth etc...

Have a read of the book of the "Songs of Solomon" in the Bible. It's a really short book, but it has so many beautiful and romantic verses, don't know why no one uses them.
Everyone tends to use the book of Ruth, it's become unoriginal. It is lovely, but just so over-used. Plus the book of ruth is about love between family, between two women. It's about Ruth's loyalty to her mother-in-law Naomi.

Thanks for that! Getting married in 2 days and using the book of Ruth.
I've been to 12 weddings in the last 4 yrs and never heard the book of Ruth.

Sorry, certainly didn't mean to offend. I've been to a handful of weddings and it so happened they all did use that reading; but as I also said, it is a lovely reading.
I just personally wouldn't pick it simply because I've heard it a few times already.
