Hi there, I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right area of boards, but I found some interesting threads here so I thought I would chance it.

I'm looking for some nice walks around Dublin mountains or North Wicklow to see the leaves chane colur in the autumn. I have done a few walks already, but what I have found is that you often end up on forestry access routes that are surrounded by cultivated pine forests.

Although some connifer forsts can be lovely, what I am really looking for now is a nice area of broadleaf woods with native trees, and I am struggling to find good access, parking nearby, trails, etc...

Does anybody have any suggestions? I know there are some lovely woodlands near Enniskerry, but I don't know how to get to them or if there are any trails within...

Thank you for your help! :)

I'll leave thread here for a while, bit I can move it to Wicklow forum.

It is a struggle to find broadleaf woods. One place is Glen of the Downs south of Kilmacanogue on the N11

Massey's Estate next to the Hellfire club is close to Dublin and has a good mix of trees.
Directions and some pictures in links below.

Mount Usher gardens also look great at this time of year

    Phoenix Park
Liffey Valley e.g. St. Catherines Park between Lucan and Leixlip (more woodland on the North side of the river).
Carton House (Maynooth) - many walks, map in reception, good wildlife on the walk by the river Rye.
Donadea Park (4 euro charge in) (mixed forestry).

You could try Glen of the Downs for this, has it's own carpark and is right off the N11 so it's easy access to it.

Clara Vale between Laragh and Rathdrum is a stunning broadleaf forest. There is also an area in Glendalough where the NPWS are reforesting with native trees. Both are stunning at the moment.

Kindlestown Woods, 2 mins off the N11 near Glen of the Downs, less traffic noise than the Glen itself and a fantastic viewing point over Greystones and the Irish Sea:

Also the Devils Glen, though its a bit further out from town:
