Paypal gift?

I paid for something via Paypal. The person/business I paid asked me to send payment as a gift.
I have seen several businesses on Facebook requesting payments via paypal also to be sent as a gift in order to avoid the paypal charges.

Does no one monitor this? Surely Paypal are losing a fortune if everyone is sending gifts to business accounts?

That's a really bad idea from a buyer's point of view. You cannot contest the payment, so if the business decides to not honour the deal, you can do absolutely nothing about it.

Sending gift payments to businesses is against Paypal's rules, and they can close your account for doing it.
