    OP,

I've edited your title slightly to try and attract the right people to the thread. Hopefully they'll be able to help you out.

Did 228 myself and if you want to be a games programmer that's definitely the route to take. 211 seems to be a more general course, and might not get you as solid a grounding in multiple programming languages such as C++ and C#.

There's an actual games programming stream in 4th year which can be done by either course, but the 211 guys had a modified curriculum and exams to reflect their lack of in-depth experience with the languages we were using. All in all games programming with a degree in Computer Science looks a lot better on a CV and you're much better prepared to handle the various aspects of jobs in a games company.

In regards to erasmus, as far as I know it was pretty competitive so just try and keep you're grades up. They emphasized at the time though that grades definitely weren't the be-all and end-all of the selection process.

Well you don't get a whole year off, in 3rd year you should get the option to go to France (possibly elsewhere) for the second semester for a work placement instead of working in Ireland. They might have changed their policy but that's how they did it two years ago.
