When Threading goes wrong...

    Hi guys,
I know there is a threading post on here but I wanted to put this one out on it's own.

I got my eyebrows threaded on Friday as I was going to an event on Saturday and needed them done. I'd never tried threading before but had seen it on Xpose and read up about it on the net.
When my 'new' local salon (new to me as I've moved house) advertised that they now provided this service I was excited to try it.

I didn't think I would come out looking like I'd been in a round with Mike Tyson! I'm pretty sure this is NOT what is meant to happen but I now know that I will never go through this torture again... and torture is not nearly a descriptive enough word to emphasise how bad my experience was.

Here is a pic I took of my eye on Friday night... HOURS after my appointment when the girl told me in the salon the redness would go down after an hour. Right now (Sunday evening) it's scabbing, still VERY sore to touch and still red... it better not scar!!!

I mananged to cover it with make-up for the event I had to go to on Saturday night and I wear glasses to it was covered but that's not the point. She did a crappy job and I think she knew what she did but didn't admit it to me at the time. Anyhoo.. just lettin you all know.

Oh my God! That is shocking. Glad you were able to cover it up for the night. I would have been livid! I presume you didn't have to pay?!!

Honestly, it didn't look that bad when she was showing me my eyebrows (which are uneven btw)... It was sore but I put that down to having had hairs ripped out of my face. A few hours later it had developed and become even redder.. it was worse yesterday.
In one way, I'm annoyed with myself for going to her when I knew she hadn't too much experience in threading. She's done the course etc.. but it was only recently but in another way, we're human, we try things.. I just know now that I won't be trying that again!

Oh you poor thing, look so sore!
If you do ever decide to get it done again I go to a girl in Glow, in the Spawell, she's Indian & she has 15 years experience. Fridays only.

That looks awful painful. Id put a bit of arnica gel on that just in case it starts to bruise. She really butchered you

The girl who did you eye brows clearly caught the skin while doing them (scabbing does not happen unless the skin is broken). If would go back to them and show them what it looks like, I'm sure they won't be too impressed and you may get some compensation. They are supposed to be professional and the job you had done does not live up to standards (other than someone being drunk while doign it!). Threading should be no more sore than plucking (I know quite a few people who think it's less painful) and you should definitely not be left with a swollen, scabbing eye.

I've been getting threaded for years and NEVER had a result like that.
There are many beauticians now doing a quick course and clearly doing it wrong on customers I guess.
I would say don't be put off threading because what you got was NOT how it should be done - in fact even the shape is not nice - look at all the hairs still there whats dreadful and you had to pay for that!
Go to a trusted and well recommended threader - there are a couple mentioned here on boards that are spotted around town.
I go to Natalie in Boutique and its not even sore - its like a little plucking and over within 5 minutes.
Just find a proper pro and avoid these place that say "NOW OFFERRING THREADING"
especially I saw one saying "FREE THREADING AS AN INTRODUCTORY OFFER" - which obviously means the girl was just shown how to do it and needs some guiney pigs.

Terrible!!! make sure you go back and show them the damage. The beautician that did the job clearly needs more training!!!

Id definitely head back to the salon and show them the damage! She shouldn't be allowed butcher anyone else like that! That looks nasty! Poor you!

You poor thing, that beautician really didn't know what she was doing.

You should go back in and complain, show them the photo of your eye and hopefully the manager/owner will be decent enough to refund any money you paid and also to speak to whoever did your brows and take any action necessary (further training, etc).

I had my brows threaded once, never again, I found it far too painful, but the redness went down within an hour of getting them done.

It's not just threading that can cause this. I got an infection because a dirty tweezers was used. Go back, let them see the mess they made.

I got my doctors bills paid and they paid for my antibiotics.

It's more than likely the technique the girl used. Either way I wouldn't go back there again but don't let it put you off threading.

Try somewhere more reputile next time.

It annoys the pants off me that some dodgy beauticians are able to carry on with their business.

    You poor thing :(

Those are little cuts where she snapped you with the thread or caught the skin. It's only ever happened to me once before and the girl appologised profusely, even then the cut was about the size of a full stop on me and it was only like a teeny paper cut. That looks a lot worse :(

I definitely wouldn't go back there anyway. She didn't even get a nice clean shape to that eyebrow after all your trouble. I love threading because it's so precise and the lines are so clean with not a single stray hair in sight. So sad that your first experience of it turned so unlike what you were hoping for.

I'm torn as to what to do.

I live in a small town and I don't want to cause any big fuss but I'm going to email the guy that owns it. I'm friends with him on facebook as we got him to dye hair for us last Christmas when I ran a charity night.

It definitely has put me off threading.. as much as I hate waxing, I'll probably resort back to that. Thank you for your suggestions of good places to go, like a lot of boardsies, everyone presumes we're all from Dublin... but we're not!

Thank you for you're kind comments. Some of the scab came off last night when I got back from my night away.. it's still very red, scabby looking but not as sore as it was initally. I reckon I'll have the marks for week or more!
    :(

Poor thing! I've had mine threaded loads of times and never ever had anything like this!

You definately need to say something - the person doing the threading doesn't know how to do it properly and the owner mightn't even realise this. It's just going to happen to someone esle. Don't go in all guns blazing but you'll feel better if you say something.

Hope it heals up soon ...

I can't stress enough how important it is to go to a proper threading specialist. Not one of the pop up shops trying to make a quick buck.

I use two people. One in Dublin city and one in navan (depending on where I am). Both are Indian. I don't think I would go to anyone other than an Indian lady as these have been doing it for at least 15 years.

I would make complaint. Even if you don't want to make a big deal of it just say it in passing. They may learn from it.

Definately email the owner! That's a really poor job and I am sure he would rather know his staff are not up to scratch as another customer could have a worse experience and sue!

Hope it all heals soon you poor thing

My god, thats not just a little cut, thats outrageous.
Go back into the salon, asap, and show them your eye. Email that guy and attach pictures. She is giving women who do thread correctly a bad name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭SarahJ

Woah that is defo not right at all! I don't know if this is bad to say, but I wouldn't let anyone other than an indian girl thread my brows.
