Ever had a localised pain on sole of foot?

I'm not looking for advice just for experience of others who have had something like this. I got a sharp pain under my right foot last night. I wasn't running at the time, just walking around the house! It felt like I had stood on a nail, but I hadn't. A point, the size of a finger tip, was very tender and sore to the touch, mid sole, just under the ball of the big toe.

This morning the pain was there but bearable so I headed on my LSR as I didn't want to skip it. There was an element of running through the pain barrier for c. 10k - as it was mid foot it wasn't possible to adjust running style to avoid it - but after that the pain eased. Got the OH to take this photo as it has bruised up some and is still tender. Area in question highlighted.

I'm due a GP annual check up so I might fast forward that and get him to look at it this week. I just want to see if other boardsies have experience of similar sharp localised pain on the sole of their foot. I've never experienced anything like it before. Thanks in advance.

SJ a couple of times over the last no of weeks I've experienced something very similar to u... It arrives out of the blue and is painful for a day or two ........ its like I stepped on a sharp stone....... Then just as Im about to get it looked at the pain just disappears... cant explain it but in my experience it goes as quick as it arrives.....

Twice, both times it was a tiny splinter in my heel. Had to convince my OH to pluck it out for me, she was not impressed.

<Snip>It's something I get from time to time if I do too much running in lightweight shoes. Usually a return to full-on cushioned trainers for a while is enough for it to clear up. That said, I've never had actual bruising in the area. It's probably worth getting an x-ray done to rule out a fracture.

Mod: lads please refrain from diagnosis/ speculation. OP asked for experience if you have had similar pain fair enough if it is not the same as an injury you have had (ie similar pain in different place etc.) it is speculation and as a result will be snipped.

Common problem for me. When it flares up, I ease of on the running particularly if I've been doing alot of mileage and/or races recently. Occaisonly, downgrading/upgrading runners helps.

1+ days on. No pain, but darkened bruise to show for it. Resting up as a precaution.

    Any breathing related issues?

None in the slightest. Heart was palpitating towards the end of the All-Ireland though :) Please PM to explain?

I wont say what I think it is because I might be wrong ( and I know I am not allowed to!!) but if it is the same thing I suffer from this is how I get rid of it. There is a tendon that runs from my heel to the ball of my big toe which gets tight. The problem though is that the pain generally occurs at the insertion points on my heel and ball of my big toe. What I find effective is if I stand on something round and gently roll forward and backwards on it it seems to eventually release the tightness in the tendon. I have used several items including golf balls and tippex bottles but the most effective thing I use is the tear shaped roll on deodorant bottle, like the Dove one. The shape kind of fits the sloped arch of my foot and I dont run the risk of coming off it sideways which can happen with a golf ball.

Whatever it was it was temporary. No pain today and back running so happy days.
