Car Insuance - huge difference in prices (123 vs 25plus)

    Hi all,

I'm with 123.ie and my renewal is up in October. They quoted me €715 for renewal (and I found in the past they were the cheapest) but this was up about 100 euro since last year, even though there were no penalty points added, and everyone on the policy has gotten a year older!

So I went onto 25plus.ie and got a quote for 300-400 euro depending on excess! Has anybody had any business with 25plus or any other recommendations for a good insurance quote, as I'm frankly astounded by this huge difference in prices. Are 123.ie just chancing their arm??

    Thanks for your input!

123.ie were only €300 for me at renewal time, down a good few hundred on the previous year (literally down €300), I'd go with 25+ if I was you if the excess isn't too big.

123 are writing business under a different insurer than they were for most people last year, hence there are MASSIVE price increases for certain classes of customer.

I was quoted a very small reduction (40-50 euro) on renewal vs. a 500 quid reduction with Quinn (my one claim dropped back in to not-needing-to-declare territory, and it was with Quinn at that).

MY policy on my 730i was 400 fully comp with axa,123 quoted me 240 euro and was the cheapest just to add quinn wanted 1200 simply fcuked up quote that, after been with quinn for ten year previously then axa.
    123 wins my business..

This has been asked a million times here and maybe it should be made into a sticky.

Unfortunately there are no shortcuts for getting cheaper car insurance. You need to ring every broker and insurance company in the land and see what price they will quote you. It is near impossible for anyone here to tell you that the insurance company that they are with will be as cheap for you as there are too many variables involved between different individuals, where you live and the car you are insuring.

Just take note that just because the premium is cheaper doesn't mean that the cover is the same. You need to weigh up the cover being provided by each policy as insurance companies are very good at offering cheap quotes until you look at the policy where they have a higher excess, no breakdown or windscreen cover.

I'm with 123, the quote was the cheapest I have ever had at €333 however when I transferred the policy onto my new car on Friday evening they charged me €40 :(. They charge for everything and anything though.

My renewal is coming up at the end of the month, I'm with quinn who are quoting me €715(down from €980 this year), 123 quoting me €889! Quotes seem all over the place from both companies for people....

I'm gonna give a ring around tomorrow to see if anyone can get me a better price.

Hi all, thanks for the numerous replies. 123.ie seem to be very hit and miss, but I can see how 25plus are offering cheap insurance, obviously by only insuring over 25's (is that even legal?). I was just shocked to see them basically either a) not wanting my business this year by increasing my premium or b) by hoping i'd renew without shopping around. Either way, it's a real eye opener

Always check the extras of each policy. Windscreen cover, lock replacement, breakdown assist etc. Amazing how these are disappearing off policies or becoming paid extras.

If you go for bonus protection also check how many claims it actually covers.

    123 are robbing barstewards.

    I renewed in September €40 renewal + €443 .
I asked them last week about changing me to cover business mileage (class2) and the lady simply said we don't cover business or class 2. So i cancelled policy € 40 to cancel. Turns out they cover unlimited business mileage minus goods& passengers on normal policy.

Changed for no good reason other than laziness on the part of customer service.
    €80 Down
Got a decent quote and advice for insurance from Zurich €435 fully comp

Wtf am i doing wrong, my insurance on a fiesta is 420 or so? no accidents, no points, mid thirties.
My concern started when, I posted a response about the AA thread for cost of driving and I could see people driving RX-8's for less/similar to what I am paying.
I drive careful, I do fcuk all mileage, I always shop around for insurance every year, but nothing helps bring it down (hardly anything for increasing the excess) I'm pedantic about maintenance??

I dont begrudge your prices, I'd like to get them myself, so can you tell me how??? by comparison with a 730, I should be paying 150 quid :) helppppp

BTW - I am working on an "Insurance" thread. Just been busy over the past while. Will finish it this weekend.

there are maybee 200 730i's in the country , as for fiestas there are a lot , the old boxy ones are being bought by scumbags so their loaded, the newer ones by a lot of new/learner drivers , so the loading would be a little higher , for instance I am 21 and discovered the other day that I can get insured fully comp in a lexus LS430 for 1400 euro , it would cost me that to be insured in a diesel avensis, car insurance is a weird market and loadings on different cars make things strange

every company ive tried wont let me have an integra, evo, skyline, bmw above 2 litre diesel , s8, rs6 , altezza (is200 with a beams engine) , honda legend, s class or e class above 2 litre

but they will let me have my d-max , an ls430, rx400h, gs300, petrol X5 , ML500 or saab 95 aero for very reasonable money

A guy in my work rang 68 insurers and brokers in one day. He got a good price.

I can see it taking a day alright, need the full day off to do it and nothing else, I cant say I have ever rang even close to that many :)

edit: having said that, even when I rang a heap of places they all still come in and around the same price, no one ever really stands out as extra cheap?? and its never any less to insure my car 3rd part fire and theft than it is fully comp, even though it is 10 plus years old. (its still in (fingers crossed dont jinx myself) good condition).
Even when i get a quote, its actually cheaper when i put my girlfriend on it, even though she wont drive it and in my opinion has room to improve her driving (she just doesnt care to/thinks she is good already?? :))

I found the exact same thing. €400ish with Axa for a 5 year old Golf, I'm early 30s with 15 years driving experience. Without my girlfriend, who is younger than me and has less experience, it would be €200 more.

I rang 123 and it was going grand until they asked had i any points etc. I said no but i was over the limit back in 1997. The wouldnt give me a quote then. Like WTF i made a mistake 14 yrs ago and they hold it against me. Quinn were charging €650. In the end i went to a broker and got it for €460

Thats pretty ridiculous, i guess if they have their rules its best to say it like you did or they might withdraw cover? if they are that way and from what people say charge fees at the drop of a hat, I will never go with them. I may inquire about a quote, to see but, renewal fees? points back to 97? maybe they are intentionally trying to discourage certain ages/people?

I'd like to know what they are looking for so I can aim at a category/profile and a company that is seeking what i best fit, to reduce my premium.

women in their 30s driving bog spec underpowered fwd hatchbacks doing 2000 miles a year changing their car every 5 years who are paying for fully comp and having no points, convictions or anything else - thats insurance companies cheapest customer
