I was out playing golf this morning in West Dublin when we spotted what looked like a very unusual bird. One of the lads was saying he had been spotted regularly over the last week or two.

Looked kind of like a grouse from the whiskey add but not quite as plump. Brown speckled feathers with distinctive red/orange legs. Walked with a very distinctive and almost comical gait. Any ideas?

With specific mention of leg colour the only thing springing to mind is red legged partridge ? Strictly speaking it also probably shouldn't be there but there may be small pockets of them here and there (introduced/ released). However, the overall colour doesn't sound right for your bird.
You'll have to go back for another round and bring a camera ;)

Yeah that could be him alright. The legs were quite distinctive and I only got a sight of him as he was walking away so the colouring could be right. He certainly didn't look native. Will bring the camera next time.
