Myself and my boyfriend are heading over to meet his brother in Amsterdam pretty soon, and apart from the obvious, the only thing he and I ever bonded over was retrogames!

We decided to bring him over a Snes, but all he has in his apartment is a computer monitor. Now everyone I've asked so far has just suggested I download an emulator onto his computer, I knew this would be the only place where people would understand that that is not really an option!

So is there some sort of adapter I can use to hook up a snes to a Mac monitor?

It can be done, but not without buying additional pricey hardware. Doesn't make sense if its only a visit kinda thing.

How about a Gameboy Advance instead? It has a good few snes ports, & is a bit more personal than an emulator as a gift!

    google snes vga cable,

but unless you want to spend a few quid and have to wait for it to be delivered, the emulator seems the best option

this might work, as far as i'm aware the nintendo wii and snes have the same connection for the video

It takes more than just the same connector to achieve this. The RF out from the SNES needs to be converted to VGA, & that requires hardware/circuitry. It's not a cheap escape by any means. At 7 seconds in you'll see whats needed

    wow how confusing!
Now I'm thinking we could just pick up a cheap portable telly while we're there!

Try to buy a cheap CRT telly if you can, too.

I was about to post that a less than a tenner easycap DC 60 off ebay would do the trick (plug it all in , install drivers , download and run a program called amcap and you're sorted). You'd need a SNES AV cable but they're cheap enough on ebay.Course then I spotted the dreaded word Mac.
    ..
so yeah .get a CRT TV and you;re sorted.
