Recruitment Agency Rang My Place of Work

    Hi all,

I got a phone call in work the other day. The receptionist said it was 'Mary' and I said I don't know any 'Mary' and the receptionist said she had said she was a friend of mine. Fair enough, put her through. Turns out it was someone from a recruitment agency who had seen my profile on LinkedIn. They just looked up the number for the place I currently work in and asked for me at the switch. I was a bit shocked to be honest. I was in a room where I couldn't talk and the call was completely unexpected (and for a useless job).

    Is this common practice?

    It is getting more common.

Most of these are intercepted by our receptionist although some of them are smarter than others.

jesus that's extremely unethical behaviour. any recruiter with half a brain cell would know you wouldn't be in a position to talk in your place of work. it's more acceptable to just email via linked in and allow the person to come back to you themselves if interested. maybe drop the recruiter and email and explain that you're very irked by their behaviour and won't be dealing with them in the future.

Occasionally we get them "Phishing" also...

    Recruiter callls....
    - Hello
    Cue some flattery...
    - Oh, stop you'll give me a big head...
    Headhunting for important role....
    - Head-hunted, me?, that's Great
Oh and by the way I have some other open positions...
    - Have you?
Would you know anyone interested in.........
    - Why yes, Mick Moneybags in Finance would be perfect....
    And another role....
    - Jaysus that would suit Jon Job-Jumper in Marketing to a tee...
    Thank you for your help.
    - No problem, when will I hear from you on the Important Role.. we discussed.
    -Click....
    - Aw... Crap.....

 shocking, sounds like a desprerate recruitment agent!
was your cv uploaded with the purpose to be possibly contacted by employers? like you would do on irishjobs.ie for example? if not this is outrageous, if it was, i assume you thought of putting your mobile number/email address? I dont understand why this should have happened to you
