As some of you may know, the Garda crashed MY car. So now I have to wait
7-14 days to get it back. I drive from Newry to Dublin 2, maybe 3 times a week.
So, I'm looking for a cheap car just to get myself around. I've got around €600 MAYBE €700. I don't want Clio's, Corsa's or Polo's.

Links to an ad would be nice..

    Rent one....

Oh and I really wouldn't be picky, deciding to not even consider the likes of clios, polos etc is a bit mad imo.

I was going to consider that. The only place I know is Enterprise. I rented a car from them before and I'd never do it again.

+1 on renting one. No point buying a car. From a quick look a Budget rent a car you can rent a decent new-ish car for a couple of hundred pounds. (I searched for picking one up from Belfast city centre for example and renting for 2 weeks and it said around 280 for a golf........ http://www.budget.ie/quotation.php

I think it'd make more sense than buying a banger and not knowing what your getting and risking it breaking down. At least you'd get something reliable enough and you'd be driving in comfort while you wait for your own car.

Drive away, get a test on it & get your money back.

But if it doesn't pass the test, I'm down €750 and stuck with a big Alfa with no test...

I posted a cheap almera in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055468313&page=191

320 it cost, too lazy to find my post.

Why not commute by bus? It's only 2 weeks.

I think I'll either rent a car or buy rusty_racer94's car.

    And, I haven't been on a bus since I was 17

Fair enough! But remember, you're left with a car to sell afterwards!

Wish I had 600eur to buy a disposable car. :(

I too would suggest that renting a car for the few weeks might be the best way to go as otherwise you will be left with a car needlessly on your hands after the two weeks, as mentioned by another poster.

Make sure AGS cover your rental car costs. Its as a result of their incompetence that your down a car after all;)

If he wants to go down the route of buying . My advice is buy as cheap as possible when you are finished with it a breaker might give you a couple of hundred Euro for it Scrap Metal.

Also a rental company will ask you to put a full tank of gas in the car when returning it & if their is any damage done to the car you will be liable for some of the cost.

You also need to tax it , a minimum of 3 months I think .

The latest one I heard on that is that some rental co. are now letting out the car full & want it back empty. i.e. you pay for a full tank at their prices regardless of how much you leave in it going back. The normal, get it full, leave it back full in fine but this is an absolute scam.

Yup , use Hertz whenever I'm out of the country with the job, they've been giving the opetion to either leave it back full or empty.

You're getting it back full, now fack off you chancers.

No, don't rent, it's a waste of money.

Buy a Polo, drive said Polo and sell said Polo in a month or what ever for the same as what you paid for it. It's free then.

    Fecking renting
