It says here that a vehicle displaying a trade licence does not need to display insurance disk. What is a trade licence and where is it displayed?

Is it true if a car has trade insurance it cannot be towed by gardai even if causing obstruction in public place no tax/nct. if so what act/section is it. i searched RTA 1961 but could not find anything like that

A trade licence is used by car dealers when moving their stock about. It isn't available to the general public. It is likely dealt with under the Finance Acts.

And dropping the kids to school, and driving the daughter to the disco, and the wife shopping etc. etc. etc.

Technically they're for trade use only but dealers seem to think they can sling a trade plate up on the dash and drive untaxed cars about the place willy nilly.

a trade licence has to be displayed in the front and back of the car (usually on the dashboard and at the back window).

And AFAIK it's only for insurance, not for illegal parking or no tax etc.

    Nobody mentioned parking.

Long before insurance discs, trade plates were used by garages to drive untaxed cars (i.e. a car with no tax disc) around the place, I don't think they have anything to do with insurance.

    It was only an example.

Aren't there time restrictions on such licences, not quite 9-5, but similar.
