I think this is true, two guys who run in my group who are both heavy smokers beat me by nearly 5 minutes in the half marathon today, getting close to 1.30 (although another had to stop and walk at mile 11)! Considering taking it up! :D

Another one of those clowns myself. Smoking def dont help running. This is coming from a lad that smokes 20 a day when I am on them. They wouldnt affect me if i was running 20 min slower than my target time. If i was running at target time they would kill me.

Surely any potential benefits are offset by the negative consequences of smoking. Unless of course you're just on Nicotine patches and avoiding the tar etc. in cigarettes.

Like VR im I of the silly marathon running smokers.... Recently tried to quit but only lasted a couple of weeks ..... I get very nervous before races especially marathons and TBH I find a few cigs help me stay calm and focussed... Fking stupid I know but thats just the way it is 4 me atm.....so come the 25th my marathon morning routine in Berlin will again be ; get up, cig, breakfast, cig and another cig otw to the marathon...

Something I will address in the near future but thats the way it is just now....

The article refered to nicotine delivered through non-cigarette means. Obviously smoking is deterimental to any aerobic excerise, however I would have thought that with nicotine constricting arteries this would also be deterimental.
I also thought the piece was a spoof when I first read it.

The sex addicts usually have a very low post count due to the nature of the beast meaning they have very little time for posting on forums:p
