Girlfriend has a has 1975 beetle that keeps going dead.
New alternator on it, new battery and its been recharged in motor shop the other day. Gone again.

Driving it nearly ever day. If it is left for a few days the battery is disconnected.

    What is up with that?

Voltage regulator, under the back seat could be gone.

Same happened to me when I had a beetle.

You need to find out if the alternator is charging the battery or not before you can figure out what's going on. You'll need a multimeter to do this.

Aren't they only on dynamo cars? From 1974 the alternator cars have the regulator in the alternator.. I *think*.

When you say that "when it is left for a few days the battery is disconnected"
Do you mean you physically disconnect it or do you mean it goes flat?

Mine 1st one was a '72 as well... I think I replaced everything on that car during my ownership! Did yours have the internal fuel flap release?

No it didn't, just open it with your hand. Maybe that was a new addition in '72.

74-75 Beetles had an Alternator but with the Regulator under the back seat, 76 onwards models had the Regulator inside the Alternator.;)
