So went to bed last night phone was at 31% woke up this morning & the phone isn't responsive, when I plug it on the charge the led flashes orange 5 times, normal speed and then one quick flash.
unplugged the battery for a while etc. left it in charge.
tried holding down vol + press power nothing happens on plugged in, when not plugged in it give a faint orange flash.
been on to htc they want me to send it back but to cover my own costs of posting it to the UK, its still in warranty, so I don't want to pay these costs & will go to meteor store,
only thing its rooted with leedroids rom & I can't get the phone on to unroot it, so has anyone sent one back & had an unsuccessful repair under warranty?

Had a HTC repaired myself last week. HTC paid for UPS to collect and deliver back the phone. At no stage did I need to pay for anything. Repair was done under warranty. Mine was rooted running CM7 but bootloader still locked. However I was able to flash back to stock before sending it off for repair.

Did you contact them via email? I phoned them up using the Irish number and found them very helpful.

Doesn't rooting your phone void the warranty?

This can be quite a grey area. Here's my understanding and personal experience.

There's different ways to root your Android phone. Easy way is to unlock the bootloader and root, but this can void your warranty.

The other way is to use an exploit to achieve superuser (root) on your phone. In this case your bootloader remains locked. This is supposed to be a better option when it comes to warranty considerations.

HTC can be very understanding with rooted phones. If the issue is clearly hardware related and not caused by a non-stock ROM, then they should cover the repair.

yea I had rang them on the phone alright I went through everything and He clearly stated that I would have to pay for the transport of the phone to them my own way, They would pay for the return of the phone.
But if it was found that it was a user hardware fault I would have to pay for the return of the phone.
He stated at the start of the call that I would have to pay for it to be shipping to them, and I confirmed this at the end. bad form from HTC to be honest compared with Apple, as using meteor means they will send it to phonefix who will basic just look at the phone to confirm its faulty & will not open it.

The way I rooted my phone was I had downloaded the "superuser" app & did a temp root on it to make sure it worked & then click on the "attempt to perm root now" or it was "root on boot"

Sounds like you used something like SuperOneClick, which uses an exploit. I'd guess that your bootloader is still locked.

When I was on the phone to HTC I said that my issue appeared to be a common one going by reports on the web, and suggested it sounded like a defect. Perhaps that's why they also paid for it to be collected?

    Yea super one click.
on the other hand I was up in my family home and tried the charger up there, it did the e same thing with the lights but left it while I did some other things, came back about 1.5 hours later and it turned on, it must be a faulty charger I have, when I came home I tried the charger again & nothing happened. must be faulty charger wire. Glad it was some (not)so simple :) thanks for your help

Hardly the battery by any chance.I plugged in my dhd one night a few weeks ago and nothing at all happened.thought there was dirt in the jack on the fone which there was and cleaned it out.still wouldn't charge.thought it was the charger then but was perplexed cos had used it earlier that day for 20 mins and worked fine.

Took battery out blew into the phone, replaced battery and worked straight away.

The good old days of being a technology wizard by blowing into a Nintendo cartridge and fixing it.

    Regarding warranty with HTC.
I broke my dhd months ago and sent it to vodafone here in town. They sent it to someone up in dublin. Few days later they replaced the phone, even though some of the warranty void stickers where missing and the phone was rooted etc. They said it was water damaged which it couldn't be. It stopped working after it fell really hard into a wall :pac:
I had to pay a little bit for replacement mind you.
