Well done Ireland, they did us all proud.

Healy played amazing. Ferris did so much work today great performance from him. SOB brilliant too. In fact tbh the Ireland 1-8 outplayed all of their opposite numbers. Not as much to say about the backs but everyone had a good game imo.

I thought Ferris and O'Brien were massive today. And I thought Rory Best had his best match ever for Ireland.

Australia lose their first choice hooker and number 7 and replace them with a thrower who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo and an anonymous flanker.

We lose our first choice hooker and number 7 and replace them with Best and O'Brien. How's that for strength in depth.

Best carried well, offloaded well and hit his man everytime in the lineout (not that he had many).

The forwards were absolutely fantastic. Sheer class. On a pessimistic note I thought Heaslip was the poorest of them, good in defense but a bit anonymous in attack. On an optimistic note I thought, what the f*ck is going to happen when Heaslip does go all out attack!!! And for all the SOB 7 doubters, he did magnificently off the scrums and on the ground.

really hope Heaslip finds some form for the remaining matchs over all the team played great and the scrum was class

They were all excellent. Though I'd still be slightly concerned about their inability to score tries.

That's my only negative about the match. They can't keep relying on the place kicker(s).

    Since Ye are all cowards :p;

    (1) Cian Healy. Epic Game, Loved his cocky attitude, Totally dominated Australia 9/10

    (2) Rory Best. Followed up last weeks game with another great game 8/10

    (3) Mike Ross. Solid as usual, Not as dynamic as Best or Healy but played well 7/10

    (4) Donnacha O'Callaghan. Another solid game from DOC, Didnt take a step back 7/10

    (5) Paul O'Connell. Leader of the pack, Great in lineout, Pity He insists on taking the ball into contact 7/10

    (6) Stephen Ferris. Back to his rampaging best, Carrying Genia=Epic 9/10

    (7) Sean O'Brien. The new farmer we all love, Blew Australia away at the breakdown and with ball in hand 9/10

    (8) Jamie Heaslip. I actually thought He was out weakest pack member, Was decent at the breakdown but in the shadown of others 6/10

    (9) Eoin Reddan. He really doesnt look when he passes, Put Sexton under pressure with a couple of dodgy passes early on sorry but 5/10

    (10) Jonny Sexton. Was terrible again off the tee was decent with the boot otherwise, When moved to 12 our backline looked more fluid 6/10

    (11) Keith Earls. Didnt really get ball in hand, Decent in defence, Still hasnt got into the grove and doesnt use his pace enough 5/10

    (12) Gordon Darcy. Started the game well, But faded in the 2nd before injury 6/10

    (13) Brian O'Driscoll. Inspirational captain, Once again not a day for the backs, Body on the line from our go to guy 7/10

    (14) Tommy Bowe. Got us up shouting just didnt have the energy left to do it 6/10

    (15) Rob Kearney. Got beaten by Beale for a high ball took all of 2mins for him to get revenge solid all day 7/10

    Court(5) Murray(5) ROG (7) Trimble (5)

This is just my views on the game I doubt everyone agrees

POC, Best, Bowe, SOB, Ross, Healy, Ferris, Kearney 9/10, any of the 3 clontarf men in the pack could have got man of the match.

Referee 4/10 for getting in reddan's way in the oz 22 in the first half then awarding a knock on against him when it should have been a pen under the sticks for offside.

Australia had nobody but themselves to blame. McCalman is a No. 8, not an openside and it was no shock that he was anonymous. The bloke was playing lock at one point for the Force this season and now he's an international openside?! What the Wallabies would have given for George Smith to be still around. Phil Waugh or even Beau Robinson would have been much better options today and would have made life more difficult for us. The first time he played 7 for Australia was against Italy for 20 minutes.

The drop off from Moore to Polota-Nau is massive. Aside from BDP, Moore is the best hooker in the world arguably. He's a fantastic player but he has been around for donkeys years and Australia have nobody but themselves to blame for not having a replacement for a specialist position.

I think that is very harsh on Bowe. I reckon he was our best back today. Done a hell of a lot of work. Ran out of legs for that intercept but that was in the 77th minute and after putting in a good 80 mins. I'd give him a high 7 or low 8.

Today wasn't about individuals, it was the collective that told the difference.

While I agree with this in general, it helped that most of the players had individually great games too.

Healy- 9. Outstanding performance, deserved man of the match. Great in the scrum and around the field.

Best- 9. Another brilliant performance from him. He ran some great lines and made 2 brilliant offloads in particular which cut up open their defence. Add in excellent scrummaging and good throwing, plus a good game in the loose for a brilliant all-round performance.

Ross- 8. Not as prominent as the other 2, but our scrum was so utterly dominant that he has to get a high mention.

O'Callaghan- 8. If only he had dived on that loose ball early on...still a fantastic game from him, some brilliant tackling, great work rate.

O'Connell- 9. Another monstrous performance from him...dominant in the lineout, directed the pack well and was ferocious in the tackle.

Ferris- 9. The man is a beast, his tackle on Genia embodied the Irish performance. Scarily good, considering how long he's been injured for.

O'Brien- 9. I know Pocock wasn't there but he was fantastic at 7...simply blew the Aussie backrow off the pitch. Though something about me would have liked to see him at 8, attacking off our very strong platform last night. Still...he was immense.

Heaslip- 7. Decent in defence, didn't offer much with ball-in-hand. And he gave away an incredibly stupid penalty too but he was good, just a lot quieter than the rest. I think if Wallace was here, he'd be in danger of losing his spot and maybe that's what he needs. But maybe he'll improve anyway.

Reddan- 8. I thought he was very good yesterday, not always his biggest fan but I think some of the criticism he's getting was very unfair. His passing was pretty crisp and overall he had a very good game.

Sexton- 7. Decent game but goal-kicking is crucial, it can't be denied. We can't afford to miss those kind of kicks from now on. We got a bit lucky yesterday but they were ones you'd expect him to score. With ball-in-hand he was good, but we have to take all our chances. I wouldn't mind seeing him at 12 if D'Arcy isn't fit. Though McFadden is probably preferable.

Earls- 6. Not that he had a bad game, he just didn't get much ball. Made a couple of good tackles and looked a bit more dangerous than the last couple of games when he did get the ball. One mistake at the start which he was a bit unlucky with but I think he did well when he was involved.

D'Arcy- 8. Best game for Ireland in a couple of years from him. He was excellent before his injury. Definitely quietened in the 2nd half but I was sad to see him go off, he was very good.

O'Driscoll- 7. There were some good moments, but I think I actually saw him miss 2 tackles which is unheard of for him. Looked shattered at the end, I'd rest him for the next game because we need him.

Bowe- 7. Good, solid game. Good in the tackle, countered well and was unlucky not to score at the end.

Kearney- 7. Lost out to Beale with a high ball at the start and he sliced a kick too so I was worried. But he recovered really well to have a very good game. Ran some good lines, made one great claim in particular and did well to dive on the ball in their 22 which we nearly scored a try from.

O'Gara- 7. Place-kicking was assured, made some great kicks out of hand. Passed the ball well too, but did make one terrible kick too.

Murray- 6. Did okay, mixed good and bad imo. Would have loved if his try had counted, would have been great.

Court- 5. Scrum did seem to get weaker when he came on.

Trimble- 6. Didn't do much either way.

Fair ratings but I think people are being very harsh on Heaslip. Watch it again. He was in every ruck, made some great tackles and had a fine game, one penalty aside. He's not carrying the ball as much as both SOB and Ferris are better at it. Him not running from the back of the scrum seems to be a tactical call... he wasn't afraid to do it from our own 22 in one instance.

Yeah I'd agree with that. I think Heaslip might have been acting as our 7, not in the scrum obviously, but around the park. Probably a tactical call to free up Ferris and SOB for the carry work.

I thought he actually kicked poorly, one out on the full, then 3-4 straight into Australian hands. Although Sexton was brilliant elsewhere on the pitch, a 7 when he missed 3 kicks is a bit too much I'd have both outhalves at 6.

Anyone see Jim Glennon's ratings in the Sunday Independent today? Gave nearly everyone 8.5 plus, while it was an unbelievable performance this was completely over the top. The likes of Kearney, Earls, Reddan, Sexton and Darce deserved 7.5 at best in my opinion. On the other hand, Sob, Ferris, Healy, Best, perhaps Ross and Poc all deserved 9's!
