Im going to look at a car in the next few days, is it recommend to get the car checked over by a mechanic before I buy it? Is it better to bring it to a garage or bring a mechanic to the car itself?

At a minimum bring someone with you the knows a bit about cars. Checking the service history is important and looking at previous NCT certs can give an idea if the car has been clocked.

If there is a garage close by and you can bring it to it that would be perfect. The mechanic can put it on the lift then and check all links and bushings and if its a older car or English import can check properly for rust issues.
