close to some of "Dublin's best schools".

Same schools that the genius owners went to to learn how to buy property at over inflated prices?

In fairness to the owners they've lived there since at least 1993 according to the ad. Well before property prices went mad.

Knock over a million off that price... You'd need to keep the money for a refurb

Blimey, so much chrome, surely that's a dangerous house to live in a thunderstorm!

I LOVE this place. It was in Thursday's Irish Times property section and I've been imagining I was living there ever since. It's really Gaudi-esque.

I would be getting rid of that giant Jesus and some of that metal though if I moved in myself though.

This is the sort of place that would be amazing to have acess to for that 'Open House' night. I think the State should buy it (if we had any money) and preserve it for posterity - it is that unique. The craftmanship is amazing - the doors, the mosaics. The Summer House is like something out of a child's fantasy.

    I want it.

Oh yeah, and it has it's own website if anyone wants any more pictures:

Not a great website but still interesting.

Found this on Myhome, well worth taking a look at the photos. Check out the dragon gates!

Another pic of the entrance gates here:

You'll notice a very clever sales tactic if you view these pictures - the vendors have kept all the walls in magnolia and cream colours. It keeps it neutral, so it will appeal to all tastes and people will perceive it as a blank canvas.

    Very clever.

They must have spent so much on disgusting home decor that they couldn't afford a decent telly. (Pic 7)

Very high level of finish to that house I have to say...worked in a lot of blingy homes over the years and that's up there...some pretty unique features but very overstated. Must have knocked half a rainforest to outfit it.

    tacky tacky tacky

the front gates look like barbed wire

pity money can't buy you taste

I like the Chinese style shed.. that's about all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭Caraville

It's beyond tacky- it's so flippin ugly. And it doesn't make any sense, those chromey things mixed with the country feel of all the wood & woolen throws etc. They must have picked the decor themselves, surely no interior designer would suggest all that crap.

The chrome outside makes the windows look like they're shattered. Although maybe that was the look they were going for.

Looking at the floor plan - the size of that basement?!!?! Wine cellar, library and everything! Its like a big, fúck-off chrome cluedo.

Too gaudy for me. Love the floorplans though, but the decor is eye-wateringly ugly. It hurts my eyes.

  • It's absolutely horrendous. It's not even cool in a kitsch way. The decor is just bizarre - some rooms look traditional and plain, others look Mediterranean, the kitchen looks like something from Star Trek and what's with the random metal all over the place? Money can't buy taste, indeed. Yuck.

have to laugh at the bitterness here, the house is pretty class and im pretty sure if anybody on here had this as their home, they would be very proud of it. certain things need changing, but that goes for every house.

id love to live here, id get rid of the gates, but not alot of work needed here.

class place, i used to live about 300 metres away from it, the area itself is also very nice, though not alot of shops or things to do there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭Karona

The house is very nice but I would chuck out all that stainless steel, its cold and I can only imagine it would be a bitch to get fingerprints off.

Also all the holy joe stuff would have to go, it would freak me out too much.

I do like the mosaic on the back of the house though its very pretty.

And if you look at it on google maps, there's a lovely housing estate being built next door, with some fairly high apartments - so if you fancy splashing out a few mil to live next to a building site for the next few yrs followed by reduced privacy then this the house for you!

I like it. It's unique and it falls on the right side of borderline tacky.

Some parts of that house do look pretty nice. It's a pity that the rest of it is unbelievably tacky.

All that ironwork and trellis 'stuff' on the veranda is just naff and the fact they continue it indoors leads me to believe the place belonged to someone who won about a million in Euromillions and had been to Dubai or Saudi Arabia on holiday and wanted to recreate the experience back in Dublin. Looks like it could be the set for a Harry Potter film.

Someone should have told the fan of metal working that sometimes less is more. :D

Who was it sang "Rip it up and start again"? Cause thats what the new owner will have to do.

 hmmmmm..... Does chrome have a scrap value? If so - we may be on to a profit maker here....

My brother was in school with one of the children. The father is a psychologist.

Sometimes when we were younger we'd get our parents to drive to the house just to look at the gates. The residents in the estate beside the house all think it's a monstrosity!
