Advice badly needed for self employed person

Hi currently a family member is making very little, almost no money in a business, he is in a large amount of debt. Owe rates, credit union, revenue, also credit card etc.
I need advice badly for him. His wife is not working( gets no social welfare) and has young children. I am well aware he is not the only one in the country in this situation but I am unbelievably worried.
He wants to keep the business open until he can find out what he is entitled to in help. He would be applying for job seekers allowance I think? However will he be denied as I currently still have the business? The income he makes is not even a 100 euro per week maximum. Will they deduct this from anything he is entitled to? He is very very worried. How should he go about applying for this he badly badly needs the money frown.gif

Ok wel Im not entirely sure about this but I dont think you can get Social Welfare whilst Self employed. If he was just working three days a week at the most but as an employee not self employed he would be entitled to claim for the rest of the days which he is not working.
Why is his wife not claiming anything? She would be entitled to taking into consideration how little her husband earns, it is means tested.
I cant believe people are living on this tiny amount of money. His wife should absolutley get Jobseekers allowance and childrens allowance. In the meantime their local Community Welfare Officer can give them money to help them out. I would tell them to go into Citizens inforamtion ASAP!!!

Sorry but that is incorrect, you can still have a business and apply for help from SW, it will simply be means tested on the income you are making. I presume they are getting childrens allowance and there is nothing his wife can claim if she is not looking for work. She could if she is looking for work now apply for ja but if he is going to apply on Monday then it's the same difference.
