    Surprised there wasn't a thread about this. Was reading the Guardian lately and saw an obituary for one of the great characters of TCD of modern times. A staunch Unionist and Presbyterian, an eminent historian, and a major character. Died August 29th. Trinity is the poorer for it. (He was before my time but I'd heard many stories over the years, greatly admired in the history department)
