I'll deal with this in the morning unless one of the other mods gets to it.

OK, i'll allow this unless Big_G /Fitz have an issue.

Remember folks no names allowed, no moaning about Irish dentists being rip offs, go to Bulgaria etc. Posts containing the above will be deleted.

    Couple of things here.

    1. This will cost more in Ireland as it is obviously a Clinic doing high speed dental tourism.

    2. Alpha Bio Implants are not a great option to be honest, very difficult to get replacement part for in Ireland. (bit like having a Chinese car here, cheap to buy, nobody can fix them here or get parts,)

    3. Look like they want to crowns all your lower teeth, is that really necessary?

    4. Temporary crowns should be part of the crowns not a separate fee, you have to have them. Its a con to charge separately.

    5. They have a tooth down for removal and a crown which is impossible.?

I would say that if treatment is as sloppy as the plan your in trouble. Bet this plan was done off a singe X-ray. I advise caution, the re-treatment burden of that plan is huge if its is done poorly which is not uncommon then your into a life of dental trouble. Search the forum for other posters who have gone down this route. Also my experience is that denture work done quickly is very poor looking.

Thanks. As obviously I have a quote here I am just wondering if its good. To me it would seem good for the work involved but just want to gage opinon as I don't know how much it should be. Yes this is a "holiday dentist" that visits Ireland and there is a backup in Ireland for this. It is for my mother. She has been told it will take about 6 months and 5 visits or so.

I think this is overtreatment, forget the price for a minute, bad dental work or unnecessary work would be too expensive if they paid you for it. Get a second opinion on whats actually needed from a specialist (this is a specialist job really) I can recommend one in cork if you would like.

OP, this is not the first time that I have seen a treatment plan like that.

You need to first assess what is necessary and what's not.
For example, you may want and need the implants but not all those crowns, however because each crown in this "big" treatment plan is €300 each- you'd be mad to turn down that bargain...!!!

But you need to remember that all jobs like this require annual maintenance and replacement every 10-15 years approx. The cost of the re-treatment is nearly the same again and again depending on the age of the patient- this is where over-treatment really becomes expensive. You also need to factor in the quality of the original work as poor tooth preparation can leave the next dentist with nothing to work with and then that tooth is a gonner and you are into more expense of implants or bridges etc.

    I've seen bad dentistry from home and abroad but all have characteristic features;

Treatment is rushed, not allowing time to heal, implants to integrate, soft tissues to mature and tweaking for optimal aesthetics....

Treatment is too cheap. If someone is offering you a ferrari for €11,750, it's too good to be true

The treatment plan is too ambitious for the level of training of the dentists providing it. Certs in implants and membership of cosmetic associations hold no water with me (you can buy them). You can only trust training from academic institutions that give the dentist some extra letters after their name.

    Good luck,
    OS

    Hi OS,
May I ask, outside of costs of replacements, what 'annual maintenance' would involve for crowns/veneers? Is there something here other than a check-up involved?
Also, ref treating the tooth, is there a rule of thumb in terms of how many times you can have a veneer replaced before the tooth is a gonner?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi E,
Crowns and veneers done correctly should need no major extra maintenance to teeth. After fitting there should be a early check visit and xray to make sure that there is no tiny bits of cement under the gumline as these tiny flecks can cause gum inflammation, recession and exposure of the crown margin. The margins should be checked for plaque accumulation and if the patient is keeping them clean. The patient's decay risk should always be monitored as the edge of restorations are an ideal place to get decay etc.... Then the patient should be seen on a 6-12 month review basis like any other patient.

Really, implants require a little more reviewing, as you need to monitor for bone loss, screw loosening. If the implant holds a clip for a denture, these clips wear with time and require replacement etc.

Really, you need the guy who did the work to cast an eye over it every year or so as usually he/she will spot little things that others might not...

    Good luck,
    OS
