fiat punto boot latch

hi i have a fiat punto oo reg just brought.
there was a number of problems with it .

i was trying to figure out why the boot light was not working and when i opened up ;the back boot to get to the latch i found that the wires were cut
four wires
2 brown
1 gray and black
1 black
i connected up the wires and i got my boot light working, but now i have a light on the dash telling me that a door is open when there was none open at all.

any ideas please help if you can

You might be better off disconnecting the wires again as you may have a flat battery in the morning due to the light in the boot staying on.

The boot light works trough the latch ie when you close the boot it turns off the light. You have to ask why it was cut in the 1st place, what was overlooked?

Test it with a test lamp, that will tell you if there are any other problems apart from some cut wires

when i close the boot the interior light goes out in the boot part. but when the engine is running on the dashboard it has a light on saying that the boot is open (or door open). this is only when the key is in the ignition. when i press down on the boot i see that the light goes out. and when i stop pressing down on the boot the light on the dashboard will come back on again.

So basically get the lock adjusted so that the door is closed tighter.
Are there any contacts between the door and boot frame to clean?

i have tried doing this by the latch on the door and on the body of the car. to tighten it up from outside the car and the inside of the car. still turns out the same. the light still comes on the dash.
