Tom Tom One IQ GB & Irl €56 Tesco New Ross

I picked up one of these in Tesco New Ross this evening. They had a few other makes/models on special too. Mine was reduced from well over €120. Not knowing anything about these I have a suspicious feeling I've just bought a video player thinking it was a bluray, so if you're in the know you might tell me whether I've gotten a good piece of kit or not (It's still in it's wrapping so I can bring it back!). They're over £120 on Amazon and get some great reviews - but I think they're pretty old reviews (hence the price I guess!) and I believe Tom Tom have discontinued it.

There were at least three of these units left in New Ross as of about 6pm this evening.

    Hi,

Are the maps any good? I bought a silvercrest and the maps were dire. The company would not support the satnav.

    Thanks

Havent opened mine yet either as i seen someone got the Europe maps version for €28
Iv had a tomtom before and they are arguably the best sat nav brand on the market. iv currently got a garmin and there not as good imo.
I needed to upgrade because my garmin thinks the M9 is a field as its 3yrs old.

Has anyone seen the Europe version that's only €28 in stock in any Tesco in the south east?

Just picked the Europe version up in Tesco Naas for €28. There are 2 or 3 left and they also had the RAC sat nav for around €29

None on display in mahon point so I asked and they have 8 of the eu models for 28 in the store room. Actually 7 as of now. Thanks op.

Loads of the UK/Irl units @€;56 still in Tesco New Ross - no sign of the European models @€;28 though.

Garmin map updates are "freely" available from the usual sources :) and can simply be placed on an SD card. You can even add the Europe one to a UK/Ireland Garmin. Mine (2011.40) now shows the M9, Waterford bridge but not Shannon Tunnel. Havent loaded up the 2012 one yet.

Asked at the CS counter but was told the only ones they have in this store are those on display - the UK/Irl models @€;56.

There was about 6 of the European ones for €28 in Tesco, Millfield Balbriggan this afternoon. They also had a good few of the irl/uk ones too.

No units in Ashbourne, only the UK/IRL in Bettystown @ €56.

Plenty of the UK/ROI-ones in Killarney and lots of other cheap things, too. Mainly digicams and other electronics, but some baby stuff as well. See pics.

dowchaboy, would you mind PMing me with info on where you get the updates please? Am a bit technologically challenged and could do with updating my Garmin .. would be very grateful! Thanks

Careful buying a Tom Tom one GB and Ire. I bought one before and then went to add Western Europe and one stage - 800mb, which one be fine but onboard is only 512mb and not expandable. Wouldnt have been that pissed off only I saw that the earlier versions of the One actually had 1gb storage...

Maybe the onboard has gone up again.

Mahon Point still had a few of these (both the EU and UK/Irl ones) around 7pm. Be prepared for an interrogation if you want one of each though, they refused to sell me both. There goes the early xmas pressie for the OH :D Some of the other TomToms are also reduced but none of the price tickets say so so expect a trip or two to the price checker.

Not sure if Wilton has them at all, they said they only have what's on display and there's none out.

    Thanks

I'm not technologically challenged and updated the maps on my Garmin. Maps are great now but have different problems now with searching addresses etc. You might be best to just sell it now still in tact and buy a newer one, rather than chance messing it up, making it worthless and still having to buy a new one

I read the reviews on amazon and there were some complaints about them being hard to update allright, but I updated mine this morning and all went well. My PC said that the memory card in the the Tom Tom was 2GB .... some versions of the tom tom ones had 1/2 a gig of memory in them from what I read ... and couldn't hold many maps. So it all seems good.

Thanks to johnwd for original posting. I got the ireland/uk one in ballybrack today Sunday for €56, came home, updated map online took about five minutes. I am well pleased as my old Navcom, whilst having a larger screen, gave up the ghost after a year and couldn't be updated anyway.

I assume if you also add in US maps too these too if you pay or "acquire" them. I'm moving to the US permanently in a few months and will def be needing one of these. have a Garmin at the moment but the maps are all old and i like how the tom tom one has the picture for the junctions, as its it quite hard to see what the sat nav is telling you to do at junctions on the garmin on sometimes.

Also what is the different between the 'XL' model and the 'One' model from Tom Tom?

The XL is a larger screen
and you can add the US maps if there's enough storage space on the device.

    Hi guys,

Just back after a few days south with my new Tom Tom and am very pleased with the machine. It's easy to use with the latest maps.

Tomtom One need to be connected to app called "Tomtom Home". you will find it on their website.
