Bridesmaids dresses the same colour, different styles

    Hi,
Has anyone had/going to have their bridesmaids in dresses the same colour but different styles? I want my bridesmaids (3) to enjoy the day and feel comfortable and I know that won't happen if they're all dressed the same style dress as they are different shapes/sizes/heights!
A couple of online places seem to do a variety of dresses in any colour, but I'd be nervous about ordering in case there is a variation. Getting them made unfortunately is not an option as one of the girls is in New Zealand until just before the wedding.
I'd appreciate any advice or tips on the issue
    Thanks :)

Yeah, I am. We're going to try dresses on in a shop and then depending on the price in the shop we'll either get them there or order them online. If you want them to be the exact same colour and are worried that the colour would be different if they are wearing different materials then see if you can get swatches of your chosen colour in your chosen materials.

I think of doing this aswell. Like you, OP, my 3 bridemaids are different sizes/heights/prefer different styles. I'd hate for them to feel uncomfortable on the day

It's been standard in other countries for years. I don't know why we in Ireland persist in squeezing fat girls into skinny dresses and skinny minnies into fat girl dresses

Yeah I did that. I just got the dresses in Coast. They had a collection that had the same colours and varying styles so they looked as though they came from one place although they were different if that makes sense. Managed to match a third perfectly for colour in another high street shop as it was a colour that was in season. Looked great on the day and all the girls are able to use the dresses again should they want to. Even if you're not getting them from highstreet shops, it still looks good!

Yep, my sister is doing that - myself and the other 2 bridesmaids will have the same fabric, length (to the knee) all A-line, but will have different bodice to the dress.
Bride is in a strapless, so to contrast we will have straps of some sort - maybe one-shoulder for one, spagetti straps for another, and halter for the next.

Add in that 2 of the bridesmaids are abroad too, so my dress will be made with theirs. As of 2 weeks ago, I discovered mine will also be a maternity dress as I will be due the week after. Luckily the bride was already in the know that I was trying and ordered extra fabric just in case.

You could go down the route of getting them made easiily, just ask your bm in new Zealand to source out a good dress maker there, you can buy the material and send it to her.
I got my dresses on light in the box and one of my bridesmaids lives in japan, nit back until week before the wedding ( 2moro!!)
I got her measurements, sent it to her, she had to get it taken in a tiny bit, she sorted that out herself in japan.

    Hey,

I did this for my wedding in June. I had 3 BM and a Junior BM (12) All different sizes and opinions!

I found Dessy dresses online, there is another brand too but cant remember the name. They do hundreds of dresses, each in about 40 different colours. I had the girls all look online and try and see which style they liked best.

Then we went to Bridal heaven in swords (was the closest shop for us in dublin) there are lots of stores around the country though.

Was a manic afternoon of 3 girls trying on all the different styles! They each tried on the colour I wanted to check it suited them all, then they picked styles that they liked.

I was also able to order a sash for the flower girl in the same colour.

The dresses vary in price, but most are around the €200 mark. I thought this was expensive, and I considered getting them online, but in the end I chose the easier path nad ordered from the shop

The dresses are very good quality though! and all the girls were very happy!

I'm doing it - I'm using the Forever Yours range. Alfred Angelo also do the same thing.

I have four bridesmaids, I picked the colour I wanted and told them they could have whatever dress they want, as long as it's short length. I haven't ordered them yet but I'm going to suck it up and just get them from the bridal shop in those ranges to save hassle, even though it would be more money. It'll make sure they all fit properly as well. I'm not going to see the dresses until just before the wedding because my bms are all in a different country so whatever makes things easier for me seems like a good idea! I'm sure getting dresses from somewhere else online would be a lot cheaper but I'm happy that I've seen a dress in the colour I've picked and I know they'll all be matching exactly.

All of my bridesmaids are so different, they'd look ridiculous all in the same dress, I think having the bms in the same colour but in styles that suit them and that they are really comfortable in will make a huge difference. I've also told them they can have their hair and make-up done whatever way they want and they can get their own shoes. I'm buying some hair pins things for them so they'll have one matching thing, plus I'll get them the same bouquets and jewellery.

OP, if you went with a range like Forever Yours of Alfred Angelo, they are widely stocked in NZ so it would be easy for your friend to go look at them and try some on if you wanted her to. She could either get measurements taken and just order it yourself with the others or she could order it to get delivered to NZ (bear in mind though that wedding dresses and bms dresses are all a lot more expensive here than in Ireland)

Thanks for the responses guys. Some very useful information and plenty of food for thought! Had a look online and some of those stockists have shops in NZ so that's one worry sorted. Having relaxed bridesmaids is very important on the big day! Getting excited about picking the dresses now :)
