I have a brand new Vu+ UNO on the way from the UK as I type so I need to concern myself with images :D

What do people think is the best Vu+ image team. BH, Vix - any others?

OpenPLi used to be good enough too, last time I used it.

That said, I'm kinda just stuck with VIX atm, even if it does have a few quirks I like it overall.

I did use vix but recently updated to the new blackhole and I have to say its working far better for me.

Vix was good but i got too many green screen crashes and a lot of crashes when switching between DTT and Sat.

With Blackhole everything is working perfect.

    +1 for Blackhole.

I gave Vix a run, it definitely has good points, but for example, the media player was unusable for playing mp3 playlists (important to me), also MyTube couldn't be used, IMDB search was also not working, maybe these have been fixed since I tried Vix a couple of months ago...

BH 1.6.2 was rock solid for me, the new 1.6.6 is much the same, but the main new feature (a Web Browser) is quite buggy, and is best avoided, as when it crashes, it leaves the flash full, and it's hard to get back to a stable system.

The EPG works well out of the box on Vix, but you can just add CoolTV, Autotimer and IMDB search (use the ones from the Blackhole servers), and it's the same on BH.

Download the BackupUSB script for BH, make a backup and give Vix a go. If you don't like it, use the backup to get back exactly what you had before.

I'm tempted to give it a lash.

However, I've been so long with VIX, I might not immediately like the change. VIX does green-screen at times, though I do like its UI. Maybe I can do a whole VIX backup and then try BH to see what all the fuss is about :)

I see the post also mentions a bootloader update, but doesn't explain how to update it, that I can see.

Trying Blackhole but I'm having a problem with EPG summaries disappearing after you zap on a channel - the summaries are there when you open the channel list but after you zap on a channel and come back out into the channel lst the summary for that channel is gone. This happens on every BH image that I have used.I am running Open TV Epg with Crossepg.
Is anybody else having this probelm?

I'm using Black Hole on my boxes, I find it rock solid and easy to use (important for Mrs. Clareman)

I like it as well but all the options have me bamboozled, have you got crossepg and autobouquet working. And what box are you using.

I want a nice skin but one I downloaded gave me GSOD so did a reflash before I saw a fix via DCC. And I had it all working with BH2.0.5. I use sony play tv for irish dtt but that second mux is giving me strange results. I have hdd fitted and can tape what I like and watch another but yet to fit a dual dvbs tuner.

any tips or hints most welcome.

I have a Solo2 and an Ultimo, I'm not sure of the image version, it's 1 of the newer cut down ones. I have a dedicated USB stick from CrossEPG as I've found in the past that having different things on the stick makes CrossEPG stop functioning. I don't like Autobouquet as it kept adding in channels I didn't have or moving stuff around, I just get a version of SgtFitFlop's bouquets (google him, there's a forum on DigitalKaos where people upload bouquets to it).

I also just use the default skin, I've tried different ones in the past but they tended to just annoy me, I had 1 on an old Qbox that I got ported across that was very nice, I'll see if I can find that on my server.

As for apps, all I use really is Project Valerie and 1Channel.

Oh yeah, and by the way, I am more than well aware that having boxes with such power is wasted on me

get openvix you can always change later.

    +1 for openvix.
By far the easiest to set up, in my opinion.
Then, back it up and have a play with other images.

Hi guys. Considering buying a Vu duo. I'm a bit of a newbie with this though. Is it very comolicated to set these up? Would I be wasting my time learning as I go??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭swoofer

be careful, a duo is very old, the duo2 is the latest but cost more. it depends on what you want from the box and your budget. they can be tricky to set up but vu boxes have lots of support. there is a thread on here about best enigma 2 boxes and the vu boxes are enigma 2, have a read.
