How long to wait between wisdom teeth extraction & large filling/root canal?

I had a consultation with an oral surgeon a few weeks ago and had 3 wisdom teeth out yesterday under general anaesthetic (the fourth had been removed previously.
(I found it went FINE yesterday, and I regret listening to people telling me how awful it would be!!)
Anyway, at the consultation the surgeon said from looking at the xrays, the tooth next to one of the lower wisdom teeth had been quite badly damaged and would require a large filling / root canal treatment after the wisdom teeth extraction. She pressed down on it with something (I didn't see what) and seemed a little surprised that it didn't hurt at all - so I'm hoping I can get away with a filling not root canal as it'd be less painful and expensive!
I forgot to ask though when I should go back to my dentist about it. I like the dentist I go to but travel a bit to get there as I prefer him to others I've had. It would be handy to know ROUGHLY how long to wait to go back, so I don't go just to be told I need to wait longer before it can be evaluated.
So my question, after wisdom teeth extraction, would it generally take a couple of weeks / months etc before being able to have a large filling/root canal - if any time at all?
    Thanks!

If the tooth in question is directly adjacent to the wisdom tooth socket/wound- then you sre best to wait until the area has healed fully before numbing drilling and filling the tooth. I'd leave it 3 week approx.
    Good luck,
    OS
