Hi just need some opinions, im currently driving a 98 corolla with 150,000 on the clock, never had any trouble with it and service it regularly. Im thinking of upgrading to a 02 or 03 model simply because im lucky enough to be able to afford to at the moment. Do you guys think its worth changing cars now or should i just keep the 98 model until it gives up? Would my 98 corolla be worth anything in a trade in or if i tried to sell it? thanks in advance

If its not giving you any problems then keep it,, see if it will last to 200,000 miles, then 250k,350k... etc

Unless the 2002/2003 model is more comfortable or whatever... sure take a test in one or two, and then have a think about it... dont make a decision in a hurry.

+1 if its not causing you any bother keep it. If you want a new motor then go for it, but dropping a couple of grand on a newer motor just in case something goes wrong with your current one doesn't make sense.

thanks for the response. yeah i figured that but a mate and me were chatting and he reckons id still get at least a grand for my current car and reckons id be better off upgrading now while my car is still worth something. Im not sure if id get a grand for it in the current climate though.

Yes, the car you have now will depreciate in value, but the car you want will depreciate by more.

It never costs more not buying a new car.

FWIW, upgrade. Life's too short to be going around in a '98 Corolla.

I don't think a 13 year old Toyota Corolla with 150k would be worth a grand somehow...

Drive your car until it dies! Have you owned it from new? But if it's trucking along, I'd stick with it. Think of it this way... If you put money to the side that you were going to spend on your new car and keep doing that, you will be able to afford something a little more special than a corolla when your car dies.

If it ain't broke then don't try and fix it. Keep what you have, it is worth more to you than someone else.

Of course if you just feel like a change then by all means go ahead.

Them corolla engines are great. My old 94 one had 204,000 miles on it and I sold it to a mate. I think it has about 220,000 miles on it now. Keep saving for awhile and get a nice 320d or something:)

You're 98 Corolla would have a more robust engine than the VVTi unit found in the 02s :) I'd keep it if it's trouble free and well kept.
