Sky install - Phone Line

    Hi

Hoping to get sky multiroom installed in a few weeks:

Getting two sky boxes one for sitting room and one for a bedroom.

I have an active phone line in the hall so I assume the engineer will just run a phone cable from here to the sitting room without much hassle.

Upstairs - I have an active phone line in one of the bedrooms but I am actually putting the sky box in a different room... I've read a few threads on the subject here and in other forums and I am not clear on whether they will actually complete the installation.... I have seen some people say that the engineer wouldn't setup the second box because there was no phone line in the room.

I have attached a rough floor plan of the setup up stairs - it's a standard 4 bed semi-D house.(excuse the poor drawings). Telephone Point is in ROOM A but the sky box is going into ROOM B

I would appreciate any advice on the matter...

Thanks BobMc. Would really appreciate if you could come back and let me know how that goes for you. Would you have an approximate price for them?

put a splitter on the point in the bedroom, run an extension into the attic and down the wall in room 2. a lot cheaper than wireless.

Dect phones are quite notorious for causing interference on Sky boxes, there's no reason to suppose that dect senders won't do so also. If possible it would be the better option to plug in an extension kit in Room A and run the cable down through a length of stick on trunking in Room B.

Do you think the engineer would do this on the day, or would I have to do it in advance?

    Thanks.

you would be better off doing it yourself, as the installer wont go into the attic.

had my sky instal done this evening, all working fine with phone extenders, one is here in living room, other in master bedroom, so far no interference with broadband dsl, must make a phone call and see how it is but all good in my book, installer didnt bat an eye when i handed them too him either and he took care of hooking em all up

Got two extra boxes installed early this year, one in the front room (downstairs) and one upstairs. Like yourself, I was worried about the extra phone lines (had a point upstairs, just not in that particular bedroom). Ended up getting a set of these:

    and one of these:

No complaints, they work perfectly (engineer seemed VERY happy I had them, saved him some extra work :))

Just to make sure i have this right. One of these connects to your main phoneline and the second one in ther room you want the skybox and just run a phonecable from one to another?

I might be wrong but this one is a single one sold seperate?

tv trade have a great video to watch its so simple I guess when they work they work great , one master transmitter can handle up to 4 slave extensions, a set is one master + one slave and you can but additional single slave units to sync to the main master unit the only cable is from main phone line to master, then from the slave to the sky box
    simples !

Thanks BobMc. I can't watch videos in work but will have a look later this evening. I'm looking at Sky multiroom and this would be a great option and save me alot of hassle.

Sorry to bump an old tread, but in relation to the phone line,

But now if i want to get sky, is it easy to get a phone line set up in my sitting room.
Main phone is in a different part of house and don't want wire going everywhere.

    Thanks

If you are getting just one box installed it doesn't have to be connected to a phoneline, the connection is only needed for multiroom.

    Are you serious?

it was about 3/4 years ago when i tried to get it before and a laneline was needed - has this changed?

    edit: the website says
Your Sky box needs to be connected to a working landline for activation at the time of installation.

Are you sure about this? Im just looking into Sky since last night and when i searched here to see if i was getting a good deal ( still dont know :o ) i found that they wont accept a Magnet line.

Went to cancel the whole thing and they said they wont need a landline for multiroom! I was gettint two HD boxes, with skyeye ( only one box recordable )

    ?
