While your tv is able to display 1080P the UPC HD signal is only broadcast in 720P. There are settings on the UPC box but as it is already set to 720P you do not need to make any changes.

As far as I'm aware the reason that 720P is used is that it uses a fraction of the bandwidth that a 1080P signal does for arguably little noticeable difference in quality over a standard definition picture.

If you want to see full 1080P picture on your tv you'll need a PS3 or a Blu-Ray player displaying 1080P content.

You can change the output settings of the UPC HD box to 1080i. A lot better than 720 if you have a decent sized tv.

Just ordered this, have Digital Max so am expecting 12 HD channels, two questions is there different content on the HD channels and do I need to buy a HDMI cable or does the box come with it, thanks.

Edit just seen wiki link, BBC HD and MGM HD are the only ones with different schedule, also I notice that BIO HD has no schedule on UPC tv guide they must have ditched it.

Yes the HD box comes with a HDMI cable. Bio HD only broadcasts from 6 or 7am until 8pm. If you click the times on the UPC guide you'll see the programmes are there.

Looking forward to MGM HD the most, their choice of films better than standard MGM, knowing my luck though, UPC will probably drop the channel as soon as I get my box!

Very impressed with UPC HD pic quality, nothing on Sky's HD package I would like except Ch4 and Sky Arts HD, its a pity the beeb don't broadcast BBC4 and BBC2 in HD but I'd imagine that will happen in the distant future.
