Contact computer services but as i said, it was probably some idiot who noticed their mate was logged in and sent a class email via blackboard, had it happen manys a time! though nothing nasty mind you, you might want to report the person it originated from to the faculty directly if you feel you must, in order for them to explain the action

This person doesn't like me, and it's about the third time it's happened in two years. Just sick of it.

Hmm i see, well its a far wider issue son, you need to report the twats to your faculty, and then the SU who will give you advice, you do know there is a code of conduct and that person can be expelled? make sure you have previous emails saved and printed off, in my opinion it is worthy of going to the dean with, and trust me they will take it seriously

Contact ISS (Information Support and Solutions) at ext. 5777 or from outside University 495777. No-one should be bullied like that.

The content of it was seriously worrying.

Reported it to the dean and got a call about it yesterday so they're looking into it.

I'm assuming that you are doing this with the understanding that it wasn't actually sent by whoever's account it came from. I would expect NUIG to deal with that person regardless, since ultimately it's their fault for leaving their account logged in, but that doesn't make it fair on them.

Have you thought about maybe contacting the person you 'received' the email from and asking them about it, then pursuing it from there (i.e. once you know who actually sent it)?

Of course, the person may just be really really stupid and sent it from their own account after all.

Well the first message was just sent to me, then the second was sent to loads. I honestly don't know if it was or wasn't from him as it was consistent with what he would say. I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again, if it was or wasn't him.

I did consider to go to him first, but I know the response I would have gotten (told to feck off most likely), so thought against it.

Was there any discrimination involved? If so contact your equality officer (me) at su.equality@nuigalway.ie

You should report this to ISS as previously advised, they take all such reports very seriously.

Please also report it to your lecturer - whoever is instructor on the Blackboard course. In the new version of Blackboard, email is not available to students by default (because of abuse in the past). If your lecturer has decided to make email available to the class, he/she should know that it is being abused.

Hope you got this sorted man, and i hope whoever is abusing you (assuming you havent initiated it) burns in hell, or at the very least gets expelled, rare enough id say but its a possiblility.

It's an interesting case though. Given that it's highly unlikely that the person who's account it came from actually sent it, is it fair for the uni to hand them a punishment based on the nature of the email? Sure it's their fault for leaving themselves logged in, but if you left your keys in the ignition and a person jumped in the car and run someone over, should you be done for murder?

On the other hand, unless the culprit owns up then there's no way of proving that it wasn't actually sent by the owner of the account.

This could be the biggest case since OJ.

Thanks for your invaluable input, now feck off this thread please?

University still dealing with it, they're taking it seriously enough.

I made this thread to find out who to contact, not to ask for peoples opinions on the issue given that they haven't even seen the content in there. No need to get into childish comments.

    Thanks for the help guys.
